Breezer dropouts problem.

I've brazed a set of dropouts I bought from nova. And this happened:

I thought I needed some meat at the bottom of the chainstay to braze to.
The problem is that the angle between the derailleur hanger and the chainstay is too big.

Should I worry? I am thinking of cutting the hanger of and welding another one in a better position.

The issue is that your dropout end of the chainstay should not be a 90 degree miter. it should be offset, with more material extending around the top of the hood, so you may maintain the correct alignment.

Cut off the stay, sand the dropout clean, and give it another shot :)

Always good to draw up a plan with the proper chain stay angle to make sure your the rear derailleur tab is where it is supposed to be. Leave nothing to chance.

I see, that makes perfect sense, thank you.

I wonder though if the fillet I've made is adequate (judging by the size only) strength wise for this kind of joint.

With this type of joint, the size of the fillet is not indicative of the strength. Of importance is the internal penetration, binding the hood to the stay.

I would suggest cutting the piece in half length wise to see how well you pulled brass into the tube, binding and supporting the joint.

Evgeniy, what Rody said is right. The Breezers, I've been using them since they came out, never had one break off or crack. I use 19mm aircraft tubing for chainstays and put the bottom of the hood flush with the bottom of the stay, mitering the tube at a kind of slant. This is a joint where you have to have clean surfaces inside the tube and on the hood, and let the bronze crawl up inside. Just enough heat. If you hear a spitting sound, that is too much.
