Ya know what? Fuck the government and the billionaires who control it.

Congress saves itself and tells COVID afflicted to go fuck themselves

Synopsis: Four "relief" bills in, and average people get told to get back to work making $$$ for the wealthy. Amazon crushes unionizing attempts by people told to shut up about being forced to work without protection. $$$ for the wealthy flows with zero strings attached. We get a skimpy paycheck bonus, maybe, in the dark future, but it gets taken back next tax day. And Congress... gives itself the world's best healthcare while telling us "we can't afford" the universal care every other decent nation has.

This system has to burn down before it kills us all.

These things are really cool. They are big and have a low hum buzz which is distinctive.
I use to have problems in my log house in Hakuba with these critters. They are call Suzumebachi (Sparrow Wasp) in Japan.
I was stung in the neck and ended up rushed to the emergency room.

Cool at a safe distance. But since they can fly at over 20mph I think a plexiglass safety enclosure of some sort should definitely be used as well... Any insect that can sting through a bee suit is a nasty critter.

I had a bad run in with yellow jackets when I was little that taught a respect that has stayed with me to this day...

They sound like a bumble bee and are about twice as big. They sell a special 12m jet spray for these critters... I always bought a two and double barrelled shotgunned the buggers.

i thought this article in the Atlantic was an interesting read. Trump Is Unraveling - The Atlantic The author's motivation to write the article was based on Trump's attack over the week end on George W Bush's short address to the nation calling for unity. Bush didn't mention Trump by name. "Instead, he expressed gratitude to health-care workers, encouraged Americans to abide by social-distancing rules, and reminded his fellow Americans that we have faced trying times before."

Quoting the article quoting Bush: “I have no doubt, none at all, that this spirit of service and sacrifice is alive and well in America,” Bush said. He emphasized that “empathy and simple kindness are essential, powerful tools of national recovery.” And America’s 43rd president asked us to “remember how small our differences are in the face of this shared threat.”

“In the final analysis,” he said, “we are not partisan combatants; we are human beings, equally vulnerable and equally wonderful in the sight of God.” Bush concluded, “We rise or fall together, and we are determined to rise.”

Now quoting Trump “[Bush] was nowhere to be found in speaking up against the greatest Hoax in American history!”

It is always a surprise to me that someone as unhinged a leader as Trump gets as much support as he does. I would think most people would form a very negative opinion of him just listening (or reading) what he says without any other outside explantation or interpretation.

So we've had the plague, now the 2020 version of locusts is arriving. Can't wait for the three days of darkness and then the raining frogs.

We had “raining men”. I think it made it to the top 40? Frogs definitely wouldn’t be that popular.

Not so much journalism as it is a primary source, but this is a damning whistleblower complaint from the fired vaccine leader within HHS. It is a laundry list of corruption, malfeasance, inaction and incompetence throughout the primary agency tasked with taking this pandemic seriously and stopping it. Political appointees demanding we invest taxpayer dollars in quack cure-alls, downplaying the severity of the virus in it's early stages, the works.

Agreed. This is just another example of that fact. Good on Tim Bray for speaking out.

Puts all my complaints into perspective.

I ran into a friend in the woods yesterday who was legally dead for a prolonged period as a pig aorta was used to replace the one he was born with. We chatted for a bit, ten feet apart, and he told me of an employee of his who had bilateral lung replacement when hers were functioning at 8%. Thanks to Romneycare she is alive and well. He said how her problems made his seem insignificant. I demurred.

We who have a functioning body are more fortunate than we realize.

I am going to head to the woods and celebrate the fact.
