Assen was a corker of a race - more over takes at the pointy end than all of last year's F1 season. WSBK was like this nearly every race back in the mid 90's.

Pity no one could push Marquez right to the line at Assen otherwise one of the best MotoGP races in quite a while.

Yes, I was thinking about those mid 90's WSBK races while watching Assen and thinking the same thing. Marquez did a great job managing his tires the entire race. And keeping it upright. Amazing.

ever since that McLaren F1 mechanic thread, i've been kinda daydreaming about the super car auto world. a friend recently turned me onto Steve Matchett and his books Life in the Fast Lane and The Mechanic's Tale. if you're at all interested in wrenching (on bikes or cars) and F1, these are absolutely killer reads. i don't recall the last time i ever read a book cover to cover before Life in the Fast Lane.

British GP cancelled?? What the what?

I get not running it due to track conditions, but not resuming on Monday? Is that because of the bank holiday?

This is the first article I have seen that is critical of the management decisions that lead to the cancellation of the British GP.

    Silverstone: Where Is The Outrage?!

I agree with his assessment that the MotoGP press corps would not be holding back criticism had this happened in the US.

Had the prvileage of checking out Indy in Portland this past weekend.

The town really stepped up and came out to see some great racing.

Hope that they were taking some notes and that they come back next year.

COTA looks to have gotten a spot on the calendar for next year as well.

I had totally missed the injury to Rabat. That is really unfortunate to read. I hope he can make some type of recovery and live a normal life.

Yeah, the Rabat story has been buried. He will be lucky to ever race again. Normal life, as you mention, will be an accomplishment.

I went to Lime Rock last Sunday with my son to see the seventy Bugattis. Had a ball. Pall was cast on the day as we left to find traffic backed up, emergency vehicles dispersing, and a crumpled bicycle alongside the road. Someone must have left in a hurry.

I did not see another woman wrenching, and asked her where she learned her craft: "engineering degree from Smith College," she told me. I went to Amherst College at the wrong time.

Indy racing is a blast, and I am very happy to see its popularity on the upswing. If Alonso drives in Indy next year, it will be another massive shot in the arm for the series. The spec cars put me off a bit at first, but as someone involved in karting, I realized my initial opinion was dumb. The spec cars are what make it so fun; it comes down to driving and tuning. Just like in karting, the better teams/tuners figure out how to get blood from a stone and how to be consistently faster on the same equipment as everyone else.

Not as ironic anymore as his move to MV Agusta has been cancelled.

That is the irony to which I refer. The punk-ass move was against a team member of his future team and future contract holder. Now former future team.

    His public statement is here.

Missed that...but glad to see that karma is real and can sometimes act swiftly.

Russell goes from Williams to Mercedes for next race to sub for Hamilton!

Wow, very cool to see what unfolds. What an upgrade!

And Russell is P1 in first practice in front of the two redbull with Bottas 4th at 3 tenths. This despite having fit issues on Hamilton's seat and having to wear shoes one size to small to use the pedal correctly. That is a good start.

I haven't watched FP2 yet, but it sure did look like Bottas was pressing HARD after Russell set fastest time. He was all over the track all of a sudden.

On another note Sebastien Ogier won its 7th WRC title. While he is still 2 titles off Sebastien Loeb's number and had to concede last year's title to Ott Tänak which means he will never beat Loeb's record of consecutive ones, Ogier won his 7 titles on 3 different cars manufacturers.
