I brought a dozen Rosenfeld's to TooTall on Saturday at the Ball....waiting for his report. e-Richie was next door but I am not sure if he partook in the bounty.

You are a Prince. I decimated one of the pumpernickel jobs asap. The remainder were purloined by Mrs Too Tall who has a serious bagel habit.

I kove that my friends bring food to these things but more so appreciate the kinship. We are a community no matter how dispersed. #bageldiaspora

I love bagels, or what I know to be bagels, too. I know I've had a bagel or three when I've visited New York, but I don't honestly recall what I had. After all, it's been at least a decade since I've been to New York.

So, Midwestern folks - help me out. Is there anything in Minneapolis that is decent? This thread has piqued my interest.

    Waitress: What will you have?
Friend: A bagel with cream cheese?
    Waitress: A what?
    Friend: A bagel.
Waitress: Sorry sir, we only serve American food here.

Next time I am headed to/from NYC I'll shoot you an email. I can make a drop off Rosenfelds and/or Ess-A-Bagel depending on which way works.

And there is always GP Gloucester. Same thing, I can drop off on the way to/from my in-laws and watch a few races. Took my wife last year and she really enjoyed it. We were mostly near (but not in) the beer tent.

You may be right. That said, I'm going to go check out the MPLS location of the St. Paul Bagelry (St. Paul Bagelry) this weekend, and then head over the Angry Catfish to get a few things. I'll report back.

If you don't have a local bagel place, you might be able to find a decent substitute if your city has a decent Persian (Iranian) population. Try Barbari, a flatbread with a lightly sweet dough, crisp-ish crust and sesame seeds. The dough is not boiled so it has a texture akin to a Montreal bagel. Different shape but similar flavor. Great for breakfast covered with Labneh, a Mideastern cream cheese made from yogurt. If you find yourself in Toronto's Little Tehran (Yonge & Steeles in the north end of the city), Khorak Supermarket is worth a visit: it has a dedicated Barbari oven that works constantly through the day.

had quite a few in Montreal, always good, but none better than from my old haunts in Cleveland, at Bialy's (technically in University Heights) Man, I miss that place. nothing fancy, no sandwiches, no toaster that I recall, no lox, no schmear, but always had a fresh batch that was almost like French bread for the first half hour or so. also a great pretzel version rolled in kosher salt. not my photo, but you get the picture (failed to upload). Louisiana has great food but no bagels I know of, certainly none around where I am

This is a ride report that is more appropriate in this thread in this sub-forum as I took the bike from Manhattan to Queens to Greenpoint Brooklyn to Acme Smoked Fish and because you gotta put something on the bagel....

Friday Fish at Acme where they sell at wholesale prices to the general public from 8A-1P but today they opened at 6A for the crowds for the Jewish Holiday.

I took my newest favorite cycling accessory....

The line was long but they keep it happy with samples...

And it is a zoo in there but they have everything smoked you could want....

And you can get carried away....

So, if you are in NYC on a Friday morning get yourself to Gem Street in Brooklyn and make any bagel taste grand.

We made it over to the St. Paul Bagelry this past weekend. My photography skills are crap, but the bagel was good (at least to my uneducated palate).

I am sorry but that does not count; It's no better than Brueggers.

And in CT, you should have so many better options....especially near Stamford. Or even head down to Scarsdale and/or New Rochelle.
