Default How can I make my own head tube badge?

As a guy with no real tools other than basic, drill, wood saws, dremel etc, could I make a headtube badge at home? My grandpop is an oldschool mans man and has a pretty nice little woodworking shop in the basement and many, many tools i could borrow.

Is it hard to acid etch copper or brass or steel?

Is it hard to solder one metal onto another? Say steel to brass or copper to steel or pewter to nickle or any variation of common scrap metals I could get cheap.

I'd be doing any of this at home with no shop. Dining room table shop.

I'm really just looking for any ideas on how I could make my own.

I want to make a patriotic badge, perhaps the Ben Franklin cartoon join, or die. Something like that, maybe just an american flag idea I have. Nothing massively elaborate.

I know Rhys May and Jen Green do great work, but also it's priced appropriately and I am trying to shoe string budget here and I want to start trying to learn.

Any half decent tooling that is cheap would be welcomed suggestion also.

I'd be willing to bet some guys here have made stuff out of metal..

And it looks so darn good. Understated and classy, with still a bold soul.

Just a drill, some assorted rat tail and flat files?

What did you use to make the longer cuts along the lower half?

    Richard thank you

Bunch of smallish files from Bahco. Maybe 4" each.

Hah. Dedication indeed. Would be a one off anyhow, I think this may be a fun route to go for me. Figure out a plain design and just go for it.

I have seen some neat stuff done with acid etching too, I may try to give that a whirl.

Suppose this like most things, the only way to learn is to just do it.

Randonneur kindly shared this DIY etching link with me:

This looks pretty beginner friendly also.

    Thanks for the lead Rand!
