Market for apartments in NYC has sort of dropped off a bit (ahem.) But even before the epidemic, we were planning to keep it for at least another five years. We’ll see whether there are permanent changes to in-person work requirements for my wife, but right now we are sticking to that plan.

65lbs of Italian genius! It isn’t a Rocket Giotto but it puts out some decent shots. And I really haven’t tuned it at all. Now that I’ve figured out generally how it works, I’ll spend some quality time with a 5lbs bag of Ethiopian beans and the grind and pressure adjustments.

I am going to guess you plan on entertaining, given the number of empty seats.

    Planned.

Sort of the mad hatter’s tea party now. Each meal a different chair.

Looking forward to that changing. House can also sleep 8.

Just bumping this thread because... you know...it’s been a while and I have a sense of loss. WTF am I supposed to do if I can’t vicariously build a house?

I haven’t seen any pictures of the gatehouse Jorn?

Sort of multi-week headache. I won't go into detail, but the punch list seems at time to only create more items for the punch list. But we are wheedling things down slowly. The out-of-doors is a joy, and the team working on the landscaping is also. I look forward to their visits. We just turned on the radiant floor heating. So far so good.

My wife likes her office. Paperboard down on the floor as there is still some touch-up painting to be done.

My wife would like me to tell you that is her left arm on the desk. She is not related to the Michelin man.

And still no sign the gate house has even been started. This could go on for years...

I have been working on the bike shop. It is nearly the gate house as it is about 75 yards from the house. UPS man doesn't even go to the house any longer. Just tosses whatever through the open garage door.

Ah, Eric sold his cross bike, damnit. Great for you of course, I love that thing, taken it out for a few spins, if it was big enough for me I would have been all over it.

If my trips down to and up from the mailbox are any indication, it appears to be an excellent climbing bike. Very light. And from our 20 minute exchange in the parking lot of the Chief Martindale Diner, Eric seems like good people, so I felt good about the purchase.

Hope to get a chance to ride more this weekend and more often afterwards.

Jorn...will Mike and I have an espresso machine in the Service Course too, as we don’t want to be walking through your kitchen?

It is concrete and polished but left with irregularities and imperfections. Pretty smooth though.

Thanks on the light. We bit the bullet at the right moment (several times we neither bit the bullet nor did or didn't at the right moment) and hired lighting designers. That was money well spent.

Right now we are enjoying the radiant heat. It isn't really noticeable except that you are comfortable.

Fox has been taking a dump on our front door for the last week. Part of the morning routine. Wake up, go turn on the espresso machine, scoop the fox poop, etc.

After a couple weeks of hearing things on the roof but not getting a bead on what or where, I heard flying squirrels hit the house last night. So now I need to find the hole. I know there is a hole or crevice or slot or something. There's a local squirrel expert so he'll come next week.

We also had barred owls on the house last night so perhaps my work has already been done for me.

I have only seen a flying squirrel once, and that was at night riding by headlamp. Incredibly cute creature, but not something you'd want in your house like the rest of the rodent persuasion.

I caught a couple a long while back in a have-a-heart trap. Super cute. And pretty docile too. They wanted to get away, but they also wanted to check out the pockets in my jacket.

Oh dear on the flying squirrels. I hope the squirrel expert can figure out a solution. Some friends had a log home in Livingston and had to cut the trees near the house back and down for what they (and I) considered too far a distance to solve the problem. Hope your problem is not as severe (which since it is not the same construction....). Fingers crossed.

Okay so it is mice not flying squirrels. I’ve trapped 8 in the last 2-3 days. Cold nights are bringing them in. Exterminator is coming first of the week.

I guess the flying squirrels were just testing out the landing strip.
