Default I need a shoe recommendation

I need a shoe recommendation. Looking for something to wear with jeans and khakis - something between sneakers and a lace-up oxford, preferably in brown leather or suede.

Nice looking boots, but I'm looking for under the ankle cut.

The clarks may still work. Or one of their other models. I resisted the urge to get a pair for years because I prefer low cut shoes. But I finally did and they may be my favorite shoes apart from my Vans.

    SIDI.

For real, take with salt as my style is much more crunchy granola but I have loved over the years: a) El Naturalista campos (they have a rubber-coated rope sole & and a very comfy footbed which was cool) b) Timberland Earthkeepers stuff. Worked well w/ my whole thing. I would personally want to try Clarks desert boots next tho. Or just leather hiking boots. Multi-purpose.

    AE Strandmoks.

Look good out of the box. Look better with every mile that passes under the sole. Completely recraftable. Love mine.

What about a high end leather sneaker? Common Projects is the originator, but Gustin has some nice looking options at a much lower price point - I think Allen Edmonds also started making some recently.

Loafers could be a good bet too, I have a pair of grey suede beefroll penny loafers that look good with just about everything.

Can't beat Clarks. Wallabees are great. Same with Desert Boots mentioned above.

Give Sperry's Gold Cup line a look. They have some great looking, all leather upper casual wingtips and loafers. The leather is soft out of the box (little to no break-in req'd), have a great leather covered insole and vibram soles.

I haven't had Wallabees in many years, but they may be just what the doctor ordered.

Cole-Haan Tucker Venetians. Loafers with a firm running shoe sole. Great travel shoe. I've walked all over many cities wearing them with jeans, given them a bit of a buff and then off to dinner in slacks. The two tone color isn't as much of a contrast as the photos indicate. Quite the opposite. Very nice looking shoe.

From me specifically or a vans recommendation in general? Probably from me. It's my go to response in shoe thread. They really have a model for every occasion.

+100. My go to shoe for jeans/khakis/casual to sport coats. In addition to Angry's comments, what you might not pickup in the picture is that these have a rubber sole that's weatherproof and has good traction. I play with different colored laces, and I can't tell you the number of times people comment favorably on these shoes.

For dressier situations my go to is the Strand in walnut, even dressier are my black AE's (can't recall right now if they are Park Avenues or another model).

AE's are my go to shoes for just about everything that doesn't need to fit into a binding, cleat, or carry me over big-time rocks/dirt/water. Family business, made in WI, high quality.

Check out the web site for some good visualization. Oh, and btw, I never buy them at retail. Watch for their tent sales (online too) for big savings.

I'm a big fan of ECCO shoes. I wear them at work and casually. The quality is incredible though of course, that comes at a price. They're not cheap though they're not total budget busters either.

One thing I have found, and this probably applies to many products, the ones you buy at an ECCO store or Nordstrom are NOT the same as the ones you find at the outlet mall ECCO stores. Get the good ones at the real ECCO stores. I got a pair of these in the spring and I love them.

Linen pants are for formal occasions like weddings and court hearings. Bermuda shorts the rest of the time.

I'm a big fan of ECCO, too. But I find I have to pick through their catalog to find the sleeker models to avoid the orthopedic shoe look.

I'm wearing these today - ECCO Helsinki Bike Toe Slip-Ons - with khaki skinny-leg trousers:

Clarks also makes some really nice shoes. These are comfortable, and balanced precisely between a sneaker and a lace-up oxford. The Franson Plain:

I absolutely love my Goodwin Smith shoes. Currently have four pair in rotation and one patiently waiting. Easily dressed up or down.
