    Default Pacenti Mtn bike crown

I like the design of the Pacenti mtn bike crown but it weighs a ton. So I was wondering if anyone had tried to carve it up to reduce weight. How much can be removed and still keep it safe?

For a crown it's size, and for it's intended use, it's not all that heavy. There is room to carve it a bit, but I'd be hesitant to jump into it if you are aiming primarily for weight reduction.

Thanks Eric. The purpose here is to build and All-Road bike on 26" wheels using the new Compass Rat Trap Pass 52mm tires. The advantage of the Pacenti crown is that it has 70 mm of tire clearance. I doubt the crown will see the amount of use for which it was designed. I was thinking of giving the crown a little "hour glass" or "waistline" look. So I thought I'd ask if anyone had done anything similar.

Hal, that crown isn't all *that* heavy. But you could file it after you brazed it up for A MINUSCULE WEIGHT REDUCTION. You might be able to build that fork with the smaller Paris-Brest crown, which I use for similar builds.

    Good luck!
