The frames are not that great either. As someone else noted, cheap quality hinges and misshapen after fitting with prescription lenses.

For me, the value was in a complete package for $125, conveniently delivered to my house for trying on and again once purchased. No questions asked returns works well too. I'll give them a few weeks but if the distorted lenses continue to bother me, I'm out. I'll go back to higher quality frames and lenses for $100 more.

Broken record: goggles 4 U - complete package for $10, still rocking 4 years later, no problems. If you want a more fashionable pair it might set you back more like $50.

damn. that's a bummer. i can get Nikon or Zeiss lenses cheap through my mom, and can EP Oakley RX frames. But I really liked some of WP frames. C'est la vie!

You can. I think it's $5 less, but you are charged tax.

Like others have said, they are decent glasses. You basically get what you pay for. I have a pair of Cranes and Watts. When I first got the Cranes they were all mangled and basically had to be bent back to shape. Had to go back to the store twice before they finally fit well.

The short of it is I sourced my frame for 60% less than retail, and lenses over half off what I was quoted by the local opticians. $1200 total versus $550.00.

    Same exact glasses.

I'm all for supporting brick & mortar but the margins need to be tighter than that. They'll get my initial contact lens business.

You spent $550 on lenses for one pair of glasses?!?!? Do they give you xray vision?

I'm wearing WP right now and have second set at work. I like them a lot but I don't wear glasses all the time. WP has a location near me and I picked up both of my sets there and had them bent to fit my wide melon.

    Check this out.

I took my frames & prescription to an optometrist in Algodones, Mexico and had prescription lenses in two hours for $33.00

Steevo, I never thought of Mexico for glasses, but why not? Good idea. I have not had a problem with Costco or mail order glasses in single vision (no astigmatism for me mom), but if you have old eyes that need progressive lenses, I have had plenty of problems even with the best glasses person in the shop doing hands on fitting. You really need to nail that one. Big Rx numbers also need polished/rolled edges IMHO. Everybody needs several cheap sunglasses in Rx too.

I got my progressives in the USA to the tune of over $500 - now, those sunglasses on the dash that I may or may not drop in the ocean.......

I think he meant for the lenses + frame?

That said, I have found that well-cut, high index (1.71) lenses for my crappy eyes (-9 and -11) typically cost $400.

Finally went to see the family eye doc. who says I am a bad candidate for laser. However I'm a really good candidate for quality reading glasses and squinting.
Warby Parker clearly has the hot hand and have a physical store near me. I've got a set of progressives for computer and reading books inbound. The process is simple. The LUXExxxxx stores are a racket.

If you live near WP, they will fit them to you on site. Out of the box, there are some alignment issues which they fix. For those with a store nearby, its a worthy service.

Good to know. WP is very close. I'll report back with good news.

I'll be glad to hear about recent experiences with Warby P. I should have availed myself of the fit service you guys speak of, but a couple years back I ordered a pair of cheap specs from them and I was not impressed. They looked cool, but I didn't think the quality was there. Felt flimsy in comparison to other stuff and I am the kind of guy who gets the bottom rung of the glasses on the shelf at the eye doctor as I wear contacts 98% of the time.

Just got a pair at Jins, which seems like a WP clone, only without the home try outs.

Quality for this pair is as good as any other $300-500 pair I had before, if not better.

I have nothing against WP, but just think the frames are pretty generic. I rather have something with a little more detail. I prefer Linberg, the danish brand or Persol.

You can't buy real tortoise shell anymore, but you can buy buffalo horn. It'll set you back, but looks great.
