For those of you looking desperately for the perfect Christmas gift for yourself or your significant other, here is a great suggestion. An Anvil Journeyman barely ever used for $3500. This price includes the extra arm accessory for holding the top tube with a kind of V block attachment and/or 2 spring loaded seat stay holders (that can attach to the same movable arm). Also available (if wanted) is the stand on a caster wheeled base. There are weights in the stand for added stability and a maple top that the universal fixture mount attaches too. This stand has a smaller footprint than the Anvil one. Of course including the stand would make it difficult/impossible to ship. The universal mount can also bolt directly to a bench.

On the wall behind the Anvil fixture is one of my fixtures I’ve had laser cut and etched out of 5mm thick stainless steel in Ukraine. It has marking for seat and head angles and hex shaped pieces to set the bottom bracket drop and fork rake. Markings on the pieces that represent the seat, top and down tubes allow for reading their length to one mm. It’s awesome. It is like a giant full scale drawing – except much easier to adjust. A main triangle can be spotted together in this fixture when it is on a flat surface. This is a sample brought back from Ukraine and is available for $900. It can be shipped in a 3” round tube.

Other gift alternatives are Anvil mitering fixtures. This main tube mitering fixture is $1000. It includes the plate that attaches it to an 8” horizontal/vertical rotary table. The rotary table is not included but a Phase II model can be bought from a machinery supply house (like Enco) for $350. It also comes with 4 different size tubes that slip over the rear device that keeps the miters in phase. This is an older model that was only used to miter the tubes to make frames in Ukraine. It worked great.

The chain stay mitering fixture is $600. Again this unit was hardly ever used. It is designed to also attach to the plate that goes on the rotary table. That way the tube center isn’t lost when swapping fixtures. However it can be clamped directly in a milling machine vise too. The price does not include the plate (because that goes with the main tube mitering fixture). The price includes 3 dummy axles of 122, 132 and 137mm length.
