Summary is that AFTER the crash between the Army helicopter (on practice maneuvers for extracting VIPs from DC) and AA passenger plane, the Secret Service and the Navy were involved in testing anti-drone electronic defensive systems along the flight path of planes landing at National Airport (from the north I believe) and those tests caused interference that produced erroneous Traffic Collision Avoidance System audio alerts in the cockpit of approaching air traffic and that those erroneous alerts happened enough that pilots in one case ignored the alert entirely. And it may not have been until Ted Cruz revealed the gist of this situation in a committee session that coordination with the FAA began. I think I got most of it there.
WTF is going on in DC?
For that matter, WTF is going on in Philly and Newark?

EWR is presently FUBAR b/c of radar issues on top of runway construction. I was aware of the latter, but the former is news. Not sure about Philly.
The debacle with DCA is so nightmarish. I'll be flying to see my dad in SC, which requires a stop somewhere (CLT/DCA/PHL). On the return flight, the itinerary via DCA would nominally work out the best, but I purposely choose to have the lay-over in CLT.
Switched plans to see the kid in NYC—what was an EWR itinerary is now JFK. I’m a fan of the shorter trip into the city from EWR. The tech issues seem like they could take a while to resolve.
I'm off to Rome Tuesday. Booked the trip months ago. Flying out of JFK but return trip is to Newark. I did my tickets non-cancellable to save money so I guess I'm stuck. Hoping things are a better 10 days from now.
