    Another perfect series of flights: Spokane-Seattle, Seattle-Amsterdam, Amsterdam-Bucharest, Prague-Frankfurt, Frankfurt-Seattle, Seattle-Spokane. Nary a hitch or hiccup. Perfection.

Dave...that's because you instill fear in pilots and mechanics alike, as they know that you were an AF mechanic, before the AF was independent from the Army...;)

I'd take a ride on Air Force One, even if Harrison Ford wasn't on board..."How to Fly an American President Into a Country at War"

Alaska Airlines off-duty pilot attempts to turn off engines while riding in the jump seat...PAE-SFO flight diverted to PDX after pilot was "subdued".

Historically, these events have been precipitated by emotionally distraught and/or disgruntled employees. In addition to the Eurowings tragedy, a couple others come to mind. The crash of PSA 1771 and the attack on the crew of FedEx 705 were both examples of disgruntled employees (one recently terminated, the other scheduled for a hearing to determine his continued employment) attempting suicide by plane crash. Sadly, the PSA flight crashed with no survivors.

At first glance, it sounds like a mental health incident and he was attempting to engage the engine fire extinguishing system.

Jumpseat guy was coming down off of tripping on hallucinogenic mushrooms. Hadn't slept in 40 hours.

Depression and self-medication. A recipe for disaster in nearly all settings, and especially on a flight deck. Our culture in general and aviation medical authorities in particular are not very kind to those suffering emotional distress. Hence one of the contributors to the epidemic of substance abuse we see all around us. I hope this pilot and his family can endure this episode and someday have a stable, healthy life.

It would only be because of fast acting crew members that he and his family (and the rest of the people on the plane) have that chance.

Agreed completely and not taking anything away from the flight and cabin crews. They handled this situation flawlessly. Just empathetic toward those suffering with emotional illness. I've seen firsthand and all-too-often the havoc it wreaks on families and relationships.

Word on the street (runway?) is that one aircraft took off without clearance, hitting the other aircraft (that was landing) at the intersection of two runways. Pure luck that no one was killed. Heck of a week for near disasters in aviation...

The FAA and NTSB are involved. This is a surprisingly busy airport and my employer has a major operation at Houston Hobby. Definitely a near disaster and someone will have some ‘splaining to do.

I’ll say, as the Biscoff cookie that the AA flight attendant gave me for breakfast on yesterday’s flight from ORD-PIT was cracked in two places…

I don't eat those things any time other than when a flight attendant hands them to me, yet they're a decent cookie if you don't have homemade options.
