    Default 12mm Combination Head Skewers

    SK4010_drawing.jpg

Paragon Machine Works is happy to bring to market a new skewer that is lighter (52g), cheaper (~$20) and lower profile than our existing DT Swiss skewers (65g/~$27). It's available in 142mm (SK4010), 148mm (SK4012), 157mm (SK4014), 177mm (SK4016) and 197mm (SK4018) lengths with M12x1.0 threading. This skewer is a straight swap for all our 12mm rear DT Swiss skewers and many more on the market (e.g. I just swapped one into my 2015 Santa Cruz Bronson Frame). The head is 6mm tall, with a 6mm internal hexagon and a 15mm external hexagon for tightening the skewer into your frame. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll be happy to help.

Just to clarify; WE ARE NOT INTRODUCING A NEW STANDARD! It's simply another option for a pre-existing "standard". I know for my Santa Cruz it helped with some heal clearance issues I was having with my DT Swiss lever. For whatever reason the lever mechanism stuck out way farther from the chain stay than necessary.

Do you know if this matches the Shimano thread?

If it does I'll have to order a few to match the Nova drops I have for a couple future builds.

    Brian,

Unfortunately these do not, Shimano's 12mm rear threading is M12x1.5. While I'm at it: it won't work with MAXLE either as MAXLE is M12x1.75

    Sweet!

My first ever MTB had 15mm nutted axles.

I have the good wrench for that!

How about a front (100) 12mm TA skewer?

This should go in the "best looking skewer" thread, because honestly the best looking skewer is the one that integrates with the frame the best (ie, doesn't stick out) This ticks that box in a big way. I have no problem carrying around a 6mm allen key.

I never understood the requirement to be able to remove mtb wheels without a tool...if you're digging into your camelbak to get a spare tube grabbing a multi tool to remove the wheel isn't a big deal.

I may be interested in maxle compatible versions. I don't really like the split flange locking mechanism, but it also has not given me any issues.

    Thanks Sam.

I knew Maxle wasn't the same thread as Shimano but wasn't sure on the native DT Swiss thread.

Any chance you could make a Shimano shaped nut with the correct thread for the skewer? It would be sweet to still be able to use an insert for a direct mount derailleur. I'll make my own in the meantime, but it certainly won't look as nice as what you guys would make. It could also for riders who want to use a DT skewer and a direct mount derailleur. Just a thought.

This guy will work up front for Paragon Maxle inserts if you take a little off the non threaded insert and drill new spanner holes.

Road/'Cross thing. I don't know of any other 'cross and road forks doing 12mm TAs other than Enve though (not yet out).

I'm not sure about what's available to the general public, but at Sea Otter this year I saw Scott with a 12mm fork as well. From talking with manufactures, they can take a 15mm fork and machine it to 12mm by machining a different thread/bore into the metal inserts. From my conversations with manufactures it sounded like the industry was in this weird stand off; fork manufactures were waiting for hubs, and hub manufactures were waiting for forks. Additionally it sounds like everyone jumped on board the 15mm so quickly because of easy adaptability to 12mm.
