Compressed air rockets

I made these rockets with my boys for a school science fair project. They had a ton of fun launching them! With $10 roll of brown builder's paper you could probably make a hundred rockets. There's a complete tutorial here- Science Fair Air Rockets

Yeah! The rockets just need those cool metal tips! It would give the kids another use for their bicycle helmets. "Duck & cover!"

I'm a big believer in learning through hands on projects where my kids can apply their knowledge and maybe learn some maker skills along the way.

When my son was young we were always doing projects like this. One rocket project that stood out was when my wife had the idea to make a rocket birthday cake. Basically it was a large (width/length) single layer birthday cake with 6 "holes" in it that sitting on a custom platform. Inside the platform were 6 rockets. The holes in the cake were rocket silos. When the time came, the rockets launched out of the cake to the delight of all the other 10 year olds.
