    Default Paragliding

Stuck inside with a cold. Too much Outside television and YouTube.

    Has anyone tried paragliding?

Looks like fun, even if you just try it once with an instructor. And there's a flight park about 90 mins north of me in Dutchess County NY. For the price of two tubulars* you can learn to fly off a small hill.

*since this was way OT, I had to include a tire reference!

I've tried it twice, once on vacation down under, and the other at a hill pretty much local to me. It is a lot of fun, sort of, in that death-defying way extreme sports can sometimes be. I'm not afraid of heights or anything, and have a bit of rock-climbing in my background, but I couldn't help but feel crazily exposed when floating in the air. Hanging in a fabric seat from a dozen or so shoelace-thick strings suspended under a fabric canopy, 70ft in the air... I gotta admit, my nuts were tingling a bit. I say go for it.

If you put it that way.......then I'll try it.

It seems wholly impractical and thrilling at the same time.

I have done it a few times in France while skiing (para pente)- My step-mothers brother in law was really into for 10 years till he had his crash (no joke- not sure I would want to do it while not in the snow....he did it year round) and I thought it was amazing.

It reminded me of getting pulled around by a boat in a parachute in mexico... except you could land in some trees
