    @Rody-
Yeah I bet! You are definitely one of the folks I see pushing hard at many fronts, as well as giving back regularly.
I aspire to be that great. I may never be the most prolific with bikes, but I work to contribute and give back with the best of them.

Ah, end-grain rock maple. I made my wife such a cutting board in 1982 or so and its seen daily use since then: still flat and pristine. Looks one year old.

    Great form and function, there.

Every time I build a bike for myself, I sell it. Which works out great!
But i'm between builds right now, and the only bike I have that's ride-able is 1965 Spaceliner.

but how's this for a signature!

    So there's this:
    2015-02-11 16.05.57-1.jpg

And a little rant here to go with that:

The other day I got an invitation to be a part of a really nice "Maker" site, and while I will probably do it because I'm kind of a whore.
But this concept of the renaissance of the "Maker"... well frankly it makes me mad. I come from a really long line of craftsman and artisans, and I've always been making, it's just how i'm made up.
And it's not that I think that this movement takes anything away from me or my accomplishment directly, but I just see it as a farce.
Similarly, I can't tell you how often people ask or try to advise me on getting a 3D printer. Why the f@@@ would I want one, what would I do with it? There is very little that I can't make on any given day, and make it for real.
I'm glad they are all excited about using there minds and hands and all, just makes me grumpy that while i'm busting my hump making parts and products that are quite often integral to society at large, the masses can't get enough of the next everyday carry widget to hit the web. And there's this feeding freny, which just perpetuates it all. And people ask me if I've thought about designing idiot widgets for the masses, all while insisting that it's easy money. ugh... And sure, i'm making good money off these makers as they look for ways to increase capacity without burying themselves.
I know, it's a dime store novel, and maybe i'm just getting old and grumpy, but "Maker"?
    I'm a craftsman.

    Maker - Please...

    Will,

The top is made by the John Boos Co. They do an amazing job with these and the price is right.
The bases are historical reproduction casting that we produced in-house and have cast a third of a mile away.
    It's very reasonably priced.

Been working on this little ditty:

This was built earlier this year, but the client backed out at the end, so I left it un-built for awhile.
A local event inspired me to just go ahead and finish it up, and i'm quite tickled with how well it turned out. I might just keep it for myself.

    thanks man!

Little did I realize just how right on time what I was trying to say was.

There was a healthy slice builders there doing more than just bikes, it was really quite awesome to see.

Been at the LocoGrindstone since NAHBS and as much as I love it, it's just not that exciting to keep photographing the same part.
    But...
Here is a super cool Ti AllCross frame from Stijl Cycles using all the wicked parts I have been slaving over!

Business has been on my mind a lot lately.
I started my first business when I was 25, I had a mentor, but I was certainly on my own to make it all work.
kinda funny thinking back to that, and how frightening it all seemed.
    anyway-
Over the last few years I have found myself sharing what I have learned and providing some guidance. Not that it is unusual, but it seems to be more frequent.
It's something I truly enjoy, and it also provides an opportunity to revisit some of the choices I have made in the past, or think about how I would solve said problem for myself.
But as my own businesses get more complex, and consequences of my actions gain more weight, I am realizing that my drive and optimism in my own ability to solve these challenges have hit this plateau where I am unsure if my full frontal attack on life is really the right choice for my future. How do I plan for the next ten - twenty years of my life as a business?
    I'm a problem solver- that's why I love machining.
But knowing what's the best course for my business future? My answer is "make more sell more"- the rest will work itself out right?
So here I am with a problem I am unsure of how to solve. I really don't know where to turn, who to ask.

I wish for a place on this forum to discuss the business of frame building.
Business - it's what we are all doing here right?
Why aren't we all talking about it?

    is it just me?

I'm listening atmo. You can ask here. Or on the FF General Discussion board. You may also request that only folks with experience in the trade post to you thereby eliminating any clutter from those or are working part time or as a hobby. I think I get what you want. We're open-minded about how to make this work.
