While at NAHBS, I got this email from a customer:

    Hi Dave,

Hope you are well; I wanted to give you an update now that I've had the chance to get some miles in despite the terrible riding weather.

The bike is just amazing, The front end is responsive and goes into the line willingly and the disc brakes work seamlessly with the fork. I get so much output from the rear triangle and the bottom bracket is stiff yet the frame has a lot of overall compliance. Its hard to put my finger on, but there were times I forgot it was steel and thought I was on carbon. Most importantly, it felt familiar to me right away.

I can't wait for the weather to cooperate a little more so I can get some more miles logged on it. I'll get some pics from the road and send them along.

    Thanks,
    Greg

The last few months have been interesting, with the sale of our house, renting another (very small) house for two months, and finally having the new house purchase go through. My new shop space is coming together... Finally.

I've mentioned my low-tech crimping method before - my vise, half a tube block, and the top of a pipe wrench that I've had for the better part of 30 years. I had to smooth out the casting parting line on the wrench head, but it's worked out pretty well. I finally snagged a few action shots. These are pre-bent chainstays from Nova, going on a 1x MTB, with 650b x 2.35" tire clearance.

Providing mechanical support for the Seattle-to-Portland Classic. Ten thousand of my new best friends. A frenzy of adjustments, repairs, and general hands-on bike goodness. Can't wait to do it again next year.

Rode the Cascade Bicycle Club's High Pass Challenge yesterday. A good ride, loads of climbing. Even on the 23mm tires I had no problems with the dicey "pavement".

I have some good friends that own a race promotion company, BuDu Racing. They put on a series of multi-sport events through the season, and I've added a drawing for a bike frame and fork as one of their season prizes. Yesterday was delivery day at their first event of the season: Mt Rainier Duathlon. "Stoked!" First in-person look, first hands-on. She was beyond excited. This is what it's all about.

One of the latest completions: a climbing-specific road bike, with 650c wheels, and lighter weight tubing. Low bottom bracket and lax front end for stability, stiff frame for power transfer. This one will be hunting a PR at the High Pass Challenge on August 12th.

I was providing bike mechanical support at the BuDu Racing Bonney Lake Triathlon this morning. Yesterday just a little before 3pm, I get a call from a number identified only as "New Jersey". I figure it's just a spoofed number and it'll just be a robo-ad call. Turns out it was a gentleman whose bike was damaged (broken fork) by the airline flying into Seattle. He called me due to my sponsorship of the race series, asking if he could rent a bike from my shop. Fortunately he's close enough to my size that one of my personal bikes worked for him. I swapped in his pedals and saddle/seatpost, and he was off to the races. Seemed to work well enough.
