    Default The 360 Vise

It is so nice to have a vise that you can have access to all sides. I didn't realize how much more convenient it is until I recently installed a pedestal vise in my shop. However, I sometimes have to share my workspace with vehicles. So I wanted to have mine removable. I could've opted for something with a heavy base, but I would have to man handle it out of the way when needed. So this is what I came up with:

After locating the optimal location I began with coring a 4" inch hole into the floor.

Using anchoring cement I installed a cast iron pipe coupling flush with the floor. When not in use the hole is plugged with a brass pipe plug.

To install the vise, just thread in the pedestal and get to work.

Slick. How do you keep it from swiveling in the pipe?

Screwing the pedastal pipe in by hand creates a pretty good fit, but I use the Park vise to gain added leverage. Doing this tightens the connection really well. It is surprisingly stout.
