Second that.
If you can't put your name on it, don't say it.

Amen brother.
agree wholeheartedly.
was surprised, and troubled, to hear somebody was going after you.
that's icky.

Richard you're talkin bout Pseudonymity here, something I remember you being an early connoisseur of when you birthed e-RICHIE back in the nineties
actual Anonymity is a completely different animal, really interesting shit happens when nobody has their name on anything and attempts to do so are shunned
if you need an easily made up "real name" attached to text to tell if it's any good, the problem's on your end and could be fixed with a browser plugin
if you think "real names" add a society-preserving filter on the writer's end, you must not have seen the millions of comments from men of your generation on newspaper websites everywhere that are linked directly to their Facebook profiles
P.S. I think adding the requirement on the frameforum was a good idea, nice to know if they're hanging out a shingle when you see an embarrassing question about how to do the job — but sucks that you've gotta be the old man yelling from his porch in every thread about people signing their names

I've always had my name (actually both first and last, often with that little initial between) on my posts and emails, from the beginning I wanted my knowledge and my errors to be mine. The choice to hide behind some stage name, to not claim one's speech, could be called a coward's way. Andy.

Recent experience has shown it don't matter if its a stage name or not a names a name wether spouting bollocks or not.
Elvis Merckx is not my given name, and I'm cool with that.

Richard, If I read your linky right, you're saying that you've been a victim of cyber bullying/stalking?
If it's true then I'm truly sorry that you have had to go thru that. You put a lot of effort into moving and sharing framebuilding information and its not unnoticed or unappreciated. It sucks to think that in part, that exposure led to someone attacking you.
It also makes more sense to me now why you revoked my 'smoked out alumni members only' viewing/posting privileges. When this happened it was somewhat of a shock to me and left me feeling a little hurt. I now feel like I may have just been a casualty in your hunt to remove possible avenues that someone could gain information about you from.
As the internet era of framebuilding sprouted and blossomed so did many online personas, yours included. Its been a pleasure to watch it all happen although I realize now that no process finds the correct path without missteps and mistakes that ultimately necessitate a change in course direction. I feel like you have realized this along the way and have undertaken a pointed effort in realigning the direction that framebuilding information is shared as well as the direction newbies should take as they navigate hobby to business issues. It may have been this about face that led someone to feeling shunned and feeling like they needed to cause you pain. I'm not saying that it is your fault, only offering a potential motive if you found yourself wondering 'why'?
Hopefully for all of us you continue to bring yourself to the table with all that you share.
thanks,
jake
But others are not cool with your hiding your given name. It's sad that you are either flaunting the rules here or are ignorant in not reading the preceding posts where it's stated that you are asked to include your full (and real) name with your posts.
You know that if you walked into most any bike shop for service and refused to give your real name that they would likely refuse to accept your business. Why is it cool for you to do this to your "brothers" here? Andy.

I mis read this then; (from your linky) {So for the few of you (and the one in particular) who’ve found fault and ridiculed me along the way, who live to dress me down so you can perhaps chip away at your own low self-esteem – you with the unintelligible name who haunts my pals too and tries to roll over them similarly – }.
and this; (an earlier post in this thread)
{agree wholeheartedly.
was surprised, and troubled, to hear somebody was going after you.
that's icky. }
My apologies.
He's readily identifiable and uses that name widely: https://www.google.com/search?q=ElvisMerckx
He'd be hiding if he went by a given name that's shared by thousands of other people, with his activity and self lost in the noise
Why is his having been a member here in good standing for four years not good enough? He's not representing himself as anything he isn't.
Why is it cool for you to be illiterate in today's society where all the kids on your lawn go by "screen names" on this here internet?

I've found using your real name actually benefits, admittedly when I was involved in composites and working in industry this could have meant it was possible to back trace info on who I was and where I worked, which some of those companies might have frowned upon because of the work involved another thing is its always interesting how people regard motorsport or defence as something to jump on as a sales pitch
As I said before I do not think adding names like required here is effective measure, but I am happy to comply if that brings peace of mind to majority here, that it certainly seems to do. And especially discussing the issue to any length seems like waste of quality time.
There is one technical improvement that could be made. When posting from mobile (or tablet), this forum does not include signature, where I and many others keep our real name. So one can inadvertently post without real name, (it happened to me). I must say I felt particularly stupid for wasting Richard Sachs time to post a warning to me.
If you have any link to people administering this forum, I believe that it can be fixed by one line of html in Mobile template for this site. (it does not include checkbox and Show your signture in reply box, so it posts without signature)

rookie that does not know what things he does not know about frame building.
nevertheless, hopeful to change that in distant future
