Insulated Travel Mugs

Given the popularity and proliferation of coffee related threads around here, I'm going to assume the VS gallery has some good insight on a quality travel mug for hot beverages, mostly coffee. My lady and I are in the market. Suggestions? I would like to get something with a little panache, that will wear well (mild abuse only) and last awhile. Unless the general consensus is that one is as good as another, I'd rather not just get one off the shelf at Target. I'll spend more for a quality, functional product. Stainless steel over plastic, BPA free, etc.

Not looking for a Stanley thermos or something like that. Something more in the 16-20oz range, than you can sip out the top of.

If you need it to stay hot for many hours, that's a different thing, but we have settled on the double wall ceramic mugs with the silicone tops. They are just so much easier to clean.

I recently picked up a Thermos-brand one at, of all places, Old Navy. It's great, all steel with a screw-on top. I fill it in the morning and anything that's left is still hot in the middle of the afternoon. Best mug I've ever had, and I think it cost about $20.

works great. Beverage stays hot for hours if you preheat the mug properly.

Contigo travel mug FTW. Yes, you can get them at Target and Walmart. They're the best I've tried, and I've tried a *lot* of them. Stainless steel, a 16oz size, leak proof, autoseal sippable lid design.

if you're using it for coffee daily, what makes it or breaks it for me is the ease of cleaning the lid. coffee gets really gummy when it dries and overly complicated closure mechanisms for the sipping portion easily get gummed up and dont clean up well without dissassembly, and who wants to take the damn thing apart daily?

i use one of these almost every day. ceramic and with a simple lid. easy to keep clean, which is what is most important to me.

Picked one up from Chili Pepper bikes in Moab and figured out who sourced it. Keeps hot stuff REALLY hot for 3-4 hours (and pretty warm for 7-8) and is really easy to clean and use.

I'm going to buy a case of them at some point....group buy? ; )

I use this Klean Kanteen daily, I like it because you can put on a real vacuum lid and carry it in your bag without worry of the lid dripping.

I have a Zojirushi Tuff Slim that I got from REI probably a decade ago. Keeps things nice and hot and you can drink directly form the thermos or pour the contents into the lid that also serves as a cup. REI this sells this model though the push-button stopper has been updated (for the better it appears). Anyway, I highly recommend it. It also fits in a car cup holder and that's a plus.

Will the Zojirushi and the Kleen fit in a normal water bottle cage?

I see Kleen sells its own cages but I can't tell for sure whether it will fit in a standard stainless cage, like a Blackburn or King Cage. The local REI has the Kleen but only new-fangled plastic bottle cages in the bike dept so I couldn't do a fit test.

It definitely fits, here's mine in a titanium King Cage, but would need to be secured down with something like a velcro strap.

I put my Zojirushi in a thin sock for a tighter fit in a bottle cage. It also protects the bottle a little from scratches.

Lots of quality stuff...seems like the Zojirushi is pretty much the gold standard..

Echelon_john--that looks nice, simple, and functional...if I could find a retailer that might be a frontrunner.

+1, this mug is great. Not the most spillproof (no latching lid) but the rubber lid that is included is secure and it's easy to clean. My favorite travel mug.

FYI The Stanley 1913 bike mug fits well in a cage.
