Default "Mad Genius" Paul Budnitz does it again.

His new project is a social media that looks eerily like Tumblr.

Even less respect than I have for Jeff Koons. At least Koons has his own ideas (i think).

His true talent is self-promotion. He may be the perfect Millennial Businessman, if you will. Anyone else here been able to get themselves labeled a "Mad Genius" in print today? I'll have to read the Ello article...all I know of it so far is that supposedly they don't accept advertising(?) So what is Ello's revenue model? Subscriptions? Or is this fella' just gonna take a bunch of investors for a wad and then fold up the tents in 16 months? Anyone here an Ello member yet? And if so..when are you going to dole out the intro's?

Heres the deal, it will make him some bucks and then it will be over and in the end that's all that matters is that we all make some bucks in our lives.

At the fantastic rate that most of the techno using world adopts and then ditches the next social platform to come along just about anything is bound to be a success.

If he can insert 'elegant' or 'elite' or 'invite only' into the promoting and somehow work in a brief half second video shot of a pulsing, throbbing crowd in a concert venue with flashing lights all moving together to the beat and reaching a crescendo as the songs key word is sung it will happen twice as fast for him.

Last I checked a genius wouldn't be : "manipulated and deceived by companies" , granted i didn't read the whole story, just the standard 10second web-read scan...

It's backed by VCs so someone is going to get paid eventually or it goes away. It will be ad free until the
"We're changing, we think for the better" blog post when the free ride is over.

It's perfectly understandable that people want to share stories, personal news and media with each other. It's discouraging that the current solution
is to sign up with a boutique silo and hope you can get your circle to join in so it can work. The reality is that we already have the necessary pieced, the devices and the network connections, to not have to hand the majority of control over to one provider. Just sending bits to each other doesn't need to be further monetized when you've already bought the computer and paid the cable bill.

Oh yes, give people another app. More faces glued on a small screen, talking or reading a newspaper is banned during lunchtimes.

But why the negativity...? The dude has transformed the way the world thinks about bicycles:

"Often called the Aston Martin of bicycles, Budnitz uses titanium and cro-moly steel to create the fastest, lightest, and among the most beautiful urban bicycles in the world. His bicycles have been featured in Vogue, V Magazine, Forbes, Uncrate, Coolhunting, and many other online and offline publications. In 2012 Phaidon called Budnitz, "The man who made bicycles beautiful again" (wikipedia)
