Specialized Steel Repair - Chainstay Dimples...

Ok All! I need some input. I have received this Specialized touring frame from the late 80's for a CS repair (cracked near BB shell). That is not a problem. The issue is that it has some very unique looking Chainstay dimples. I am polling for how to recreate the dimple in the Non-Drive Chainstay… I want it to match the other two in the drive side. So, I am putting it out there for suggestions, theories, and etal… I have included a few images.

I've put some dimples in chainstays that look a lot like that. My tooling is pretty... archaic is probably the best word. I use half of an Anvil tube block to back up the tube, and the top of a pipe wrench (smoothed a little bit), place that in a vice and give it a squeeze. Wish I had pics to add here.

Create an anvil that mimics the length and valley shape of the dimple then practice on a scrap to see how it looks after pressing the dimple. I suspect that the anvil is not striking the chain stay evenly along it's length, like a brake pad's toe in. Andy.
