Are you goes doing anything special to prep raw Aluminum before paint? My normal process for painting al.......bead blast, degrease, metal etching primer, paint.
I'm considering powder coating, but haven't made up my mind.

Sorry about the oversight.....need to change my username.

Jeff,
I'd avoid bead blasting for Aluminum, as the beads (glass or stainless) tend to create a soft/rounded profile to the substrate that does not encourage mechanical adhesion.
Using aluminum oxide in a finer grain will promote adhesion, reducing the need for etching primer.
I would suggest;
Liquid paint: fabricate - solvent wipe down - 120 grit media blast - blow off with dry compressed air - solvent bath - fume off in bake box - primer - colors - clear
For simple finishes (one/two color) and limited graphics, straight powder coat is difficult to beat on an AL frame as corrosion beneath the finish and substrate is less of an issue than with steel.
If you choose to go with a powder coat, consult your coater to see if he offers a wash and adhesion promoter cycle before entering the application booth. If not, you will need to prep the frame to insure the best possible result.
