I’m looking forward to April 15 so I can finally find out Too Tall’s real first and last name. If I remember right he has been called Josh somewhere.

Years ago i read (In Time mag IIRC) about a college experiment where half the volunteers were the prison guards complete with dark glasses and the other half were the inmates. Even though some who knew each other were on opposite sides in this, each grew behaviors that we associate with the prison system. The guards who were convinced of their anonymity and power became aggressive and abusive and the inmates grew both withdrawn and desperate.

I am reminded of this often as i read on line posts.

Freedomspeecheach is not the same as no responsibility of consequencesnces, claims of needed anonymity, ability to spend money and requiring others to be able to hear/read. Andy.

The Stanford Prison Experiment. Pretty gnarly. There is a pretty interesting documentary about it somewhere out there.

Yup. Even Philip Zimbardo, the professor in charge of the experiment, found himself acting more like the warden of a prison dealing with inmates than like a university professor dealing with students. Very interesting experiment.

I'm completely baffled by how being anonymous would relate to beating a prison inmate with a stick

There are some who will always say black is white ....doesn't matter if its anonymous or not there comes a point where you just CBA to deal with it.

I find it more interesting when I get folks telling me via the internet that product X was done this way for reason Y even if they knew my name they don't know why I designed it that way but hey thanks for telling me your expert opinion without the facts to back it up armchair engineer ill remember to STFU about it in future

Mike- Are you saying that I should STFU? I won't, but I am curious why you don't seem to understand that without the feedback loop being complete people will do whatever they wish.

Every day i ride my bike to work i see another example of the cost of anonymity. Drivers are isolated from many of the consequences of their actions due to the couple of tons of steel surrounding them. This protection offers a certain type of anonymity. The results are behaviors that endanger other users of the roads.

I am glad to see more of the forums i belong to are moving to requiring posters to state their names. So often i find that things are said that if the poster and the victim were to be face to face would never have been said to begin with.

Last question- What does "CBA" stand for? Andy.

    Can't Be Arsed!

I like the new lack of anonymity on this particular forum as I like to know who is from where in realation to the builders and their product. Adds another level of appreciation of the builders work in my eyes.

Not at all I don't know you from Adam, I find it odd to put a forum post in the context of perpetrator and victim.
