I slightly misspoke. The "C" means the tire must be used on a "crotchet" hook bead rim.

Nor are they spelled the same. It's fish filet, with one L, not two.

Also, I'll add that frames aren't made with pipes. They are made with tubes. Pipe is measured by I.D. with thickness designated by schedule#, tube is measured by O.D. with thickness designated by the same unit as diameter. The exception is Surly, who obviously builds their frames with 1" sch 40.

I'm surprised nobody has yet mentioned that we say we braze with brass but it isn't really brass, it is bronze (or I think it is).

The english word is fillet, and prounced Fill-it.....ie the same wether food related or metalwork..... America seems to prefer filet when it comes to cuisine.....and is pronounced Fill-eh.

As far as medicals go, and metrics, isn't it much safer to Rx 500mg than ,5g ? I'm all for safety in poisons, and elimination of the decimal is soooo easy with that other system. Of course as a cyclist i'm fluent in both, but i steer away from mixing cm's with my mm's to keep things simple.

And I totally get significant digits (from 7th grade). You should have seen the perplexity on my math professor pal's face as I esplained to her how machinists routinely refer to .0001" as "tenths" and not "ten-thousandths". We were discussing my interview of Monday.

Every trade/culture/fruit stand has its own jargon within the native tongue. Trouble can arise when we don't recognize such as so. We started out on bikes, but look how far we've strayed.

The units are standardized so everyone is on the same page. Plus some numbers are easier to read as 5.32 x10^6 cell/uL than 5,320,000 cells/uL. Or if you changed up the units, it could get even uglier....5,320,000,000,000 cell/L. I can tell a Dr the patients red count is 5.32 and he knows exactly what that means.

Which is why i'd think .5 of x drug would never be confused with 5 of same drug as one is likely completely ineffectual and the other may be lethal. I don't know, but those who rx should. Absolutely as i said, each niche of activity has it's own standards and procedures.

But i only play doctor when she lets me, no rx or zeros necessary.

Do you think we'll ever fully adopt metrics here (in EEUU)? Seems unlikely to me. Was law in 1980...that got ignored, remember those signs with Km's? don't see much of that anymore.

We can't learn a second language, but we have learned two systems of measurement (every dickhead knows what 2liters is or a 375 bottle of whiskey approximates). Does that make us Bi-linear or at least bi-volumetric?

Wade--> It, (dosage confusion, etc..) happens all the time in hospitals. Every once in awhile a particularly lurid example makes the news.

Let's start with what is a frame ?.

Is a fork part of the frame ? What about builders who specs third party forks ? Are they frame builders or double-triangles (well, more like triple-triangles) builders ?

I'm confused. Same when I hear a frame builder praising the ride quality of his steel bikes when that thing securing the front wheel is made of another material.

Since we've expanded to tires I'll add another nonFbuilderonly concern.

Not exactly. Pipe size is a "nominal" size, and any nominal size in various schedules all have the same OD, wall thickness and ID vary. For example, 2" pipe OD is 2.375", Sch 40 thickness is 0.154" and Sch 80 is 0.218".

Why do people feel the need to list all of their bikes in their signature?

How about custom versus handmade? The word "custom" get thrown around by owners of big name bikes. Why does custom only apply to custom sized? If I have a stock sized frame made for me when I ask, is it still considered custom, or just "on-demand". If I have my frame "customized" with a pump peg and fender mounts, can that be considered custom as well? I'm not even sure where I stand on this - I just know I have a hand-fabricated frame and would like more. But I always correct people when they say "Oh, you have a custom bike". I respond with "It's a stock size, but it was made for me".
    Auk's words to live by:
Blow up and pin a picture of M. Bartoli on your wall. When you achieve that position, stop. Until then, stretch, ride, stretch, ride, eat less, and ride more.

There are very few machine-fabricated frames yet. I'm not a native english speaker but I would say made to order.

Where I'm from 'atmo' means one atmosphere of pressure, roughly the maximum pressure of a fat bike tire.
