    Default identifying rods

Is it possible to identify brazing rods of unknown origin? First thing that comes to my mind is to try to identify temperature when they melt. Can anything be concluded from specific weight? Is there some other simple test that can be performed to identify silver content? Or if rods contain cadmium? Btw, does anyone remember when cadmium rods were removed from market (or at least went out of the mainstream and became rare)?

If you don't know the source, don't use them at all atmo.

2nd, If I find a length of filler sitting around the shop it normally goes into the trash. Most of the tig rod I use isn't stamped or flagged so there's no way to tell what it is for certain. Even though nobody's going to die if one of my tools fails it's not worth trying to save ~10 cents worth of filler.
