    Default classic car market

i have always loved cars, and have watched with amazement as detroit classics have gone through the roof in value with the boomers buying their childhoods back. 1971 chevelles, 68 camaros, god forbid you look at a charger these days, which people used to buy for cheap to dress up like the general lee (!), and which i understand is horrible to drive. however, an article in hagerty's suggested this wave of 60s-70s muscle was cresting with boomers on balance now looking like they'll dispose of these things, hitting the market hard.

made me think if now's the time to look at the great cars of the 80s / early 90s. the countach has gone through the roof while the testarossa still lingers. grand nationals and deloreans are stable to on their way up a bit perhaps. obviously some of the SUVs have been hot like the wagoneer, and the E30 M3 has been ripping like nobody's business.

what else is in this next wave of cars that are out of favor or forgotten now that can appreciate strongly over the next 10-15 years? anyone got any fun ideas?

I have a thing for late 80s Toyota trucks. . . 2 1989s are hanging around, an FJ62 Cruiser and a first gen 4runner. This is not an investment to date, more like a money sinkhole. But they are fun.

964s; the rare ones are peeking upwards, but stock mainline ones are still very cheap compared to accordion bumpers and 993s. Aim for a C2 or C4 in an odd or challenging color. I think this beats the mid-year cars.

Mercedes R129 500SL/SL500s will be recognized as a classic. Get a 97 so you get the new, better SL600 brakes. Condition is paramount.

Some nutball got the 91 Maserati Shamal on the NHTSA cars and coffee list. That guy rules. Drop $29k and have the most exotic bi-turbo in the world. Make sure the Jaeger Le Coultre clock on the dash works.

    Mercury Marauder.

    Lincoln Blackwood.

    Maybe Evo 7.

Perfect condition non-t top 2-seat 300ZX turbo in the pale yellow.

    Mazda MX-3 with the V6.

Nissan NX2000, but only with the right engine and the SE-R equivalent handling package.

    Dodge Neon ACR

Lifted, white F350 crew cab duallys for dudes gettin' all brostalgic.

Oh yeah and the Carlton Lotus Omega. Also on NHTSA list. Obviously the same guy.

95 impala SS. You get the proper mirrors and windows. You get obd1 for easy tuning.

Nahtnoj, we should corner the market on those E34 M5 magnesium-alloy wheels that looked like whitewalls.

Might be a touch late for the period outlined, but the first gen Vipers will see some appreciation I'd wager. Those that aren't wrapped around trees anyways.

My old sled. Torqueless oil-burning, active-tailed lightweight fwd with a minimaserat sound that went everywhere. Still on the road.

Good call on the GM roadster twins.

The Prowler is the automotive equivalent of the Malibu Road Band - made up for an Erectile Dysfunction commercial. Only it's real!

Mister Twos especially forced induction models. MK II and MKIII Supras should still be cheap but the MK IV is probably on the rise. Finding any of those cars in decent shape won't be easy.

We can just drink coffee and eat Muffins at the Post Inn. The owner of the Atlantic will eventually show up, but he will be driving the 356 speedster.
