Default What's your favorite material for boot liner socks?

    Looks like my options are:

    Silk
    Merino Wool
    Polypropylene
    Polyester (aka CoolMax)

I like the fit on my Danner Mtn Lights, but there's a spot on my ankle-bone that might get less friction if I use a liner.

Examples of options from Fox River

    TIA

What are you running as the outside sock? Ragg wool or a terry wool like a Smartwool light hiker?

Most of the time it's DeFeet Blaze, which are probably a lot like the Smartwools:

The Blaze is the thickest DeFeet wool sock. With a full terry underfoot padding and over foot padding for extra protection, this sock will handle it all.
Machine wash cold, tumble-dry low, no chlorine bleach
    63% Wool, 27% Nylon, 10% Lycra Spandex
Air-E-Ator Vapor Zone - The DeFeet invention that started the "airflow" sock rage
En-Duro-Skin puncture resistant heel and toe
Sole2 double-sided sole construction makes the combination of durability and moisture management a reality
    Mid-foot compression banding for stabilization
    Mach Rib cuff
    Lace Pad

With those socks, I'd go with a pair of thin synthetic CoolMax liner socks, but I have to be honest, I don't think it's going to make much of a fit difference, unless the shoes aren't yet broken in and you're waiting for them to soften. I have found REI EcoMade CoolMax liners to be sturdy and cheapl.

Thanks Christian, I'll give those a shot. I agree, it may not help much, but I figure it's worth a shot.

I wear the boots to work on snow days and as is they're fine for walking around the office, but I think for a longish hike I may end up with a raw spot on my anklebone. We'll see if the liner helps or not.

FWIW my Mtn Lights used to give me hotspots on my inside ankle bone, but didn't once I wore them in/out. But I did walk the full length of the Teton Crest Trail with my inside ankle bones wrapped in duct tape one time...

Yup, that's the exact spot. Maybe I just need more miles on them. (hopefully something short of a 40 mile trek through the Large Breasts)

    Big fan of Dahlgren socks.

    design. function. technology. | Dahlgren®

The Light Hiking and Transit for most eveyday stuff. I use the Multi Sport Compression for skiing socks.
