I'm the purchasing manager for a retailer with 4 stores in Toronto.
Basically, I get paid to buy bikes and parts. Great job, eh?

custom frame/bicycle builder. 20yrs. in the industry from flat tire boy to shop owner to frame builder. raced off road for 20yrs, sometimes on the podium, often not. really liked riding bikes places where people said "you'll never make it." now i ride handcycles, pursue the perfect fillet braze, try to make bicycles that convince people to sell all the others they own and give me another deposit, paddle boats, fish and cook good food. steve.

    Default I was

a mechanic turned service manager turned store manager of a LBS in a previous incarnation. I wouldn't mind doing some of that again. Now I maintain the spin bikes at two gold's gyms in exchange for family membership.

This reminds me of that scene in Stripes where they all introduce themselves to each other on the 1st night of boot camp. "Lighten up, Francis."

Anyway, I'm in the biz, at Competitive Cyclist. Vsalon is indisputably the linkedin of the bike industry.

The thread "welcome" was locked - so I think I'll use this place as my first post.

I'm a recovering shoe cobbler of sorts. Formerly of one of the "big-two" custom (cycling) shoe fab shops here in the US. I'm not in the industry any more, but spent a long time there and made shoes for many of you on this forum (Jerk, e-Richie, Brendan, among others).

Anyway, there it is. Hope everyone is doing well.

    -Dean
