I just got introduced to the 5.11 line thru friends that work there and got deal on this one. More of a utility, quick deploy, tool while out in the bush by yourself. Mountain bike trails can get eerie quickly. It comes with a hard plastic molded holster that securely keeps it on my backpack straps with handle always presented. Quick pull and you're good to go.

They are so freakin' useful and you can never have too many. Sort of like bicycle wheelsets ;)

Steveyboy, I got that same config. (not as fancypants) on your recommend some years ago. Super easy to one hand open and even easier to keep an edge. Good stuff.

I think that was the Navaja?

I have that too, I carry it as a boat knife = it will go through a thick rope!

I have a tiny Kershaw whose locking mechanism is broken. I've had the blade deploy in my pocket a couple of times. Probably a freak accident but I'm not willing to chance it anymore. It was an inexpensive knife and I'm not willing to fuss with trying to get it repaired.

Do I chuck it in the trash? Part if me is hoping I can bring it to a dealer and it will get recycled but I bet that costs $$ for the manufacturer. Also, I don't want the garbage man to get stabbed!

Worst case I tape the thing shut, I suppose.
Glop some epoxy in the blade to handle interface and lock it in place open. Now you have the perfect letter opener, etc. Knives never get retired, just repurposed.

Yo Martin, that thing is one of total beauty.. However, if that is your 'every' day knife, then wow!!!

I would be worried to death, that would be what I might refer to as a "black tie," type knife.

Shaving hair off a gnat's ass. It's a "had to have it!" piece. Hattori is amazing, and Cowry-X is an amazing steel; uber-sharp. The spine is very thick on this blade as well, it's definitely a weapon, could easily punch through bone, etc.. great paring knife in a snap, has heft that belies its size. Less than 4".

For a discreet carry (Para-cord wrapped):

I'm bulletproof for the time being. Just took possession of a late holiday gift a gransfors bruk heavy splitting maul. It won't shave whiskers but it scratches my itch for exploding rounds of firewood....and than YOU point us at stuff like this? Bastid

I got this Benchmade Valet a little bit ago. It sits well in your front pocket, the action is smooth, the lock is positive and it's sharp as hell.

I got the same knife about 6 months ago and it has been my daily carry ever since. Everything from cutting tubing in lab to slicing endives at lunch - it's a proper, perfectly sized and tuned piece.

I just emailed to get onto the waitlist. TomW, you should be getting a referral fee.
What's the point of the extended tang? Is it in loo of a lock of some sorts? While it might be fine when it's open it seems like a major pain in the thigh when it's in your pocket.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, it would be very cool if Peter Atwood could design, make and sell a cycling-specific pocket tool. Last I checked, he isn't far from e-Richie's "new" location.
