That knife looks very much like the general-purpose "Pukko" knives that the Finns have used for years and years. Pretty useful carry knife for lots of things.

Certainly the most important knife that Puma, (when they were really Puma) ever made and like I said...the hunting knife by which all others are measured.

Agree with Josh that if you're going to have a gut-hook, it needs to be sharper/pointier. In my opinion, gut-hooks belong on bird-dressing knives, not a big-game knife. At least I've never wished I had one when dressing out.

I can do that, but first, I have to make Garro a filet knife, build 6 frames and 4 repaints.

I'm going to try to find the time this weekend to make this warding file into an EDC fixed blade or kitchen paring blade. I like how the sketch turned out.

This is my latest after losing a similar one last year. I love it. It came w/a lanyard bail which was not only janky, but smack at the beer-pry! I removed it. This stays w/me anytime there is anything boat or Ocean in my plans/day/eve/etc. Lives clipped to belt loop and pocket, I don't have to unclip to engage beer-pry. It goes through any line/rope like butter. An unexpected benefit to the chord: enhanced grip when wet. Myerchin if yer wonderin. IMG_6224.jpgIMG_6225.jpg

I've always loved the old Schrade knives, the ones made here, in Ellenville. I own most of them. Locking folders and Big Belt knives. None end up as the EDC, just cause I have choices. But the one I carry is the one that fits what I am wearing and doing.

I picked one of these up a few weeks ago. Folded it kind've looks like its made for a douche-bro. That said, I'm really impressed with how fast it opens -- I can't tell a difference between it and a spring assist -- and how sturdy the ball-bearing pivot is -- no lateral play.

Found it über cheap on Amazon. Worth the $30 or so (not so sure about it being worth MSRP)

I started this thread a long time ago and put myself on the list for Michael Morris as a result of it. I got the results a while ago and have been using them as small pocket knives for a while. Simple folders with a beer opener. Excellent and a small but enjoyable addition to my life...

Tom those are amazing. Will these remain closed in your pocket or do they require a sheath?

I'm a fan of file knives. Those look great. I've never seen a file folder.

Josh - well this forum guided me to them (can't remember who suggested them exactly) but was definitely from here. They stay closed in the pocket so far. However the more I use them the easier the movement is.

There is a sheath but it is fairly big. I think a nice custom thinner bit of leather would made a better sheath.

Man, I like those file folder that Michael Morris makes. I generally carry a Kershaw Chive (small, 1 15/16" blade) in my fifth jean pocket. I like it and use it all the time for little things, but the detail on these is really impressive. I love the file detail on these.

Those Michael Morris knives look great. I'm particularly drawn to this wharncliffe.

Lately I've been carrying a Spyderco Paramilitary 2: very lightweight, excellent balance, comfort in the hand, great grip, tough steel, useful blade shape. The quality is equal to the price paid.

I think MM has more business than he knows what to do with already. I had quite a wait but it was worth it. Lovely to semi-forget about it and then it turns up one day.

Whaddya do with an EDC knife that needs to be retired? How do you safely dispose of a knife, is there a way to recycle?

I have a tiny Kershaw whose locking mechanism is broken. I've had the blade deploy in my pocket a couple of times. Probably a freak accident but I'm not willing to chance it anymore. It was an inexpensive knife and I'm not willing to fuss with trying to get it repaired.

Do I chuck it in the trash? Part if me is hoping I can bring it to a dealer and it will get recycled but I bet that costs $$ for the manufacturer. Also, I don't want the garbage man to get stabbed!

Worst case I tape the thing shut, I suppose.

I am planning on making a friction folder some time. Now that I've seen these I will definitely be adding a beer opener to the tang.
