I finished my speaking gig at an analytics conference in Chapel Hill and now my wife and I are spending a 4-day weekend in Asheville...lucky us. No riding...just coffee, beer, wine, food and enjoying the mountain scene.

rw saunders ... if you are up for a hike ... last time in asheville, i got very focused on going to the top of mt mitchell. while cool from an elevation perspective and it being the highest point on the east coast, the view was meh. on the way back we stopped at craggy gardens ... Craggy Gardens, Blue Ridge Parkway. its a short hike and the views are much better.

After 2 days of tests it's been determined that I'm healthy, in remission and I'll be proceeding to bone marrow transplant in mid-Nov. Came home yesterday and went on a punchy group ride and felt comfortable the whole time. Best part was that it was a gorgeous night and definitely a ride I'll be filing away when I'm on the trainer locked up in Dec. Happy that Velocepedia exists and looking forward to being more of a regular and less of a lurker around here.

I haven’t seen my middle kid since mid-August, so I’m heading down to Bloomington this afternoon following my client meetings in Chicago. We’ll be drinking plenty of pourover, hoisting a few brews at Nick’s English Hut, hitting the Bloomington Farmer’s Market and his circuit of vintage vinyl shops. He’s 3/8 complete with graduate school and he’s in his “groove”, which you parents know, makes you feel damn good.

I just got this from my granddaughter. She is graduating Nursing School in December and is working towards becoming a Nurse Anesthesiologists. Smarter and much better looking than PaPa.

Posting early...picking up our middle kid, oldest son tomorrow afternoon at the airport and getting ready to dust off the LP’s, crank up the “stereo”, toss back too many espressos and drink some chocolate stout. Our youngest kid, youngest son comes home from THE Ohio State University next Wednesday and my wife will be at peace, as both boys haven’t been home together for a long while. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, but when all three kids come home at the same time during Christmas, times will be good. Warming up the amp tonight with Peter Frampton Comes Alive...oh the 70’s.

Just got my final check after my cataract surgeries (both eyes) -- all clear and healing well. One more week of restricted activity and I'm ready to go. What a huge difference, worth the long process, but I'm so glad it is over...

Had an appointment with a doc at the Interventional Pain Management clinic regarding the L5-S1 disc extrusion. While he thinks I'm too old to start tae kwon do, I'm on the docket for a guided injection when the insurance approves, which means it's about 5 weeks out. Merry Christmas!

Both kids will be home from college tomorrow (daughter is junior in Physics at Whitman; son freshman in Aero Engineering at Cal Poly). We have had empty nest for three months and life has been great!

I had a microdiscectomy to repair mine, but had to jump through insurance hoops for almost 6 months. I was doing it on my work insurance since I had PPO and Tricare. Now I just use VA and Tricare and my last MRI showed a herniated disc L3-L4. I have more scheduled next week because they just happened to see that at the edge of the field so I'm getting imaged from the neck down on my spine. VA is a little quicker than BCBS.

We’ve got some serious worldwide political events going on, wildfires are becoming “normal”, it’s pretty cold at ride start...you get the drift...a whole slew of things happening that can be quite stressful. And then you read something like this which let’s you know that there are still good things happening in the world.
