Default New Rear Disc Mount on canti frame?

    I have one of these
    Singular Kite
and would like to put discs on the back
(as well as a new disc specific fork)

    Is this safe?
    Is this possible?
    Is it worth it?
I love this frame straight out of the box but would like it to stop a little more efficiently
    Thanks for any advice
    cheers
    Rick

    hi rick,

i don't see why the addition of a disc mount to the rear would be an issue at all, it's been done many times before, although generally with v-brake era mountain bikes !
i'd use the 808N boss available from ceeway in the uk, and you'll definitely need to have a brace tube added between the seat and chainstay, otherwise you risk breaking your frame !
is it worth it ? well unfortunately only you can decide if it is or not !

btw you'll need to get the spacing altered to 135mm, will make your life easier !

disc brake forks on the other hand, i think i'd leave that until they're a little more proven (the steel ones i mean, carbon ones are probably absolutely fine)

    hope this helps

Make sure you test fit a disc wheel with an average sized rotor before you do anything else. Not all road-type frames will have the clearance at the chain stay, especially with those dropouts.

Shouldn't be a problem for the frame and fork. I have an old original Salsa La Cruz that was converted to discs many years ago. The canti studs were completely removed and the disc tab and brace added. The front fork is a custom fork, almost looks MTB beefy, but has a 1" steerer.

For the Kite (nice bike BTW) you could just buy a new Salsa La Cruz Disc fork. I have one of those as well and it's been a great fork. (I have two Salsa's.....an older and newer La Cruz......both disc).

    Thanks for the replies
I have seen quite a few steel ones on FNL so I hope they are ok
Thanks for the tip of fitting a wheel first , I have made a similar mistake before
Salsa looks a good bet to test as does the Surly
    Thanks again
