    Default Seat Stay Caps

Plan on making my own seat stay caps. What kind of material are you guys making them out of? Mild Steel? 4130? Stainless? If Stainless what grade?

Any of the above. As i like to use brass for the caps SS is out, for me. Will the caps be flat or concave? While many caps have been made from stock with tubing wall thicknesses I am beginning to like a bit thicker a stock. Andy.

Are you gonna do something like this?

Or are you actually going to turn and machine something more like this?

I'm gonna machine some of the "Plug" type. I want to engrave the face of them.

I think if it were me I'd go with stainless. If you never have brazed stainless it is a bit different since it doesn't really spread the heat as evenly as steel, so in that case you might want to do Steel if you haven't mastered torch wizardry just yet. 4130 brazes really nice, at least the tubing I use for my chainstay bridges.
