60% of Japanese engineers coming to the US to test cars still proudly rock the fanny pack. The more colors and the stranger the inspirational message on them the better.

Years ago I worked with a guy, he wore a navy blue fanny pack everyday.

One day he had a new fanny pack on, I remarked on his nice new fanny pack.

"No it's not new, I just washed it".

Turns out this unassuming fanny pack wearing had the world record for hang gliding (300 miles) and hang glided off of everest. Super nice guy and that just helped add to his myth.

Fortunately, I was able to pinch the weed in the bottom folds of my ass pack during the search. This was a long time ago.

Bento boxes: aren't they the cycling version of fannypacks?

That's a tough question. Sort of like asking which is worse, proudly wearing a mullet or a non-ironic Fu Manchu moustache.

Although either a mullet or a fu manchu moustache is cooler than a Bento box.

Which prompts the question: if an experienced rider were to go a ride with some, let's say, less experienced riders, what is the proper thing to say to a person with a Bento box or fannypack? It's just painful to watch, like not saying something to a guy with toilet paper stuck to his shoe. Same question applies regarding anyone wearing a Giro Air Attack (who is not a Pro Tour rider) (or maybe even then).

    Hater.

If it makes it any better, the girl on the right is the fanny pack model in my original post. She must be doing something right - she did win a world championship last year.

As a sidenote, why are these guys on the ski-rollerskate thing always so insanely annoying when they invade the bike lane? Headphones on full blast and swinging so wide they take over at least 1.5 lanes if not both.

I fannypacked this weekend. There, I said it. I thought long and hard about it, but went all in. Family rode our bikes down the hill to Huron River Day (free boat rental if you bike there) and it was hot as eff out, with humidity to match. No way I was schlepping a backpack around for 2-3 hours. And the cinch straps on the side hold the kids' water bottles.

Fashion be dammed it worked like a champ. And carrying around my phone on the armband I use for running was probably a worse offense.

I say you get a pass as your kids were involved - and no bento box, right?

Can I also use this thread to out awesome fannypacks worn by my co-workers, oddly enough on road trips?

    See posts 28 and 41.

If you are with kids, you get a pass. Its like wearing New Balance sneakers.

But you do have more shit on you than Seal's face.
