Wow. I can’t believe I watched that whole video but it was mesmerizing. I would love to get that treatment done to my iron rangers!

I love my fully insulated, fully waterproof, carbon fiber toed, buffed leather Carolina logger boot; see: Carolina 8in. Grizzly Waterproof Insulated Composite Toe Boots CA9528 They're very heavy but very comfortable to walk around in despite the weight issue. I just use them in the winter for snow and slush walking. I had a pair of Red Wings but those things sucked, I hated them, they hurt my feet, the sales guy told me that if I didn't like them to bring them back in 30 days and I could a refund, he failed to tell me that I wasn't supposed to wear them? Huh??? So when I tried to take them back about a week after I got them he said I couldn't return them because I wore them, so I went around and around with him about what he said and that he never mentioned not wearing them which would be absurd because if I didn't wear them I would never know if I didn't like them...common sense I thought! Anyway he refused, I sent a complaint to the headquarters and never got a response, so I took the shoes that were worn for a week to the Goodwill and got tried the Carolinas. I got the carbon toe for no reason other than if I dropped something working on my rental stuff on my foot my toes would be ok, but the next time I get a pair I'll skip the toe thing since I haven't dropped anything on my toes, but I do have fun with the grand kids stomping on my shoes while I laugh.

I treated myself to a nice pair of made in Canada W.H Moorby boots by Canada West. Canada West would be better known for their cowboy boots and handmade workboots.

    Canada West Boots - 281

They were a bit lighter colour than I would prefer but they'll darken up with some polish and a few boot oil treatments. I'll have to get a proper picture of them.

I sent a pair of LLBean Maine Hunting Boots back to Freeport last year for new soles...the third time in 35 years...they come back every time looking as good as new. We are lucky too in that Otto’s Shoes is owned by a local gent (Butch) who apprenticed with Otto for a few years and bought the business from him a few years back. If you buy a good pair of shoes and have a gent like Butch around who understands how to replace heels and soles, you can have them for life.

Went to buy a new pair Frye Prison boots (I have two pairs, combined age of 24 years) but they've changed a lot. Some kind of strange leather with "wear" printed on them like a photo or something. Lighter sole. So I bought a pair of Redwing 3343's. Real leather, high quality soles, nice laces.

I could not resist this pair of Lucchese Bison Boots that were very aggressively priced AND I had my wife's approval!

Purchased them in Aspen, Colorado on a trip to visit my oldest son

    They are super comfortable....

    Enjoy the day,

Hey KJ funny thing I had a pair made when I was shoveling horse poop for the local stables to help pay for board. They were cheap back than and I had a set made with synthetic soles, basically horse pee proof ;) Indestructable, I still wear them.

If you are ever in Phoenix do yourself a huge solid and go see Espinoza. I think he is the only American bootmaker left who actually makes boots for working cowboys. Best d@mn boots I have ever owned. Espinoza Boot Maker | Custom Handmade Boots | Phoenix, Arizona BTW he will do the tracing at his shop.

    Thanks Josh_

So you shoveled horse poop too! Cleaning stalls was one of my first jobs before I starting picking tobacco at 12 years old hard work is strangely fulfilling but you learn that later in life.

You bet if I am ever in Phoenix I'll look them up...thanks for the tip much appreciated!

Have a great day and enjoy the warmth of spring...at least it not raining here in Connecticut.

So those are ropers? Some western boots have such high heels and thin leather soles I wonder how much time they spend outside the ballroom. Yours seem to have a much better build to them. Real world.

The leather soles are substantial and the boots themselves are somewhat understated which is why I like them and I wear them as intended and show them no mercy...plus I cant dance and have absolutely no rhythm at all.

I am not quite sure why but I have a sudden "need" for a nice pair (or a couple of pairs) of Chelsea and/or laced up boots. Something like Edward Green, John Lobb, Gaziano & Girling, Bontoni, Berluti. I will be seeking a rubber sole. A few pics I picked up along the way

Golly, I'd nearly missed this. A set of those are on my bucket list. Time and infamy are converging to destroy my feet, vanity soon to follow ;)

Dear Lionel, should you decide to purchase Jodphur boots, 'cause that's what they are, I'll disown you with one caveat. Wear them while carrying a swagger stick and a loud cravat and I'll be satisfied.

Visiting Edward Green, Crockett and Jones and John Lobb tomorrow. I typically know how this ends.
