Default Dummy Axles for Henry James jig

One of the bugs in teh HJ frame jig is the dummy axle. One size fits all by virtue of a stack of aluminum washers that get jammed or mixed up or something. Also the HJ dummy axle has a tough time with BMX dropouts, which are 3/8" ratgher than 10 mm. Plus the ones I use are thin enough the HJ dummy axle hangs up and won't bite them.

Alex Meade made me these. One is 135mm, standard. The other is 110mm x 3/8" axle, and its spud is low enough that it will lock up a dropout made from 1/8" cro-moly plate.

Both dummies were just under $100 total. And they fit into the HJ jig like they were born there.

nice, I remember those HJ spacer issues from my time at UBI. Alex is awesome to work with, just had him do a surface jig setup for me.

Alex is a great guy and has been most helpful with any questions I have. Not sure if he's on here, but I would love to see him smoked out.

That's great - I modified my HJ65 to take Anvil axles like all my other fixtures.

    Steve,

Do you have pictures? This is something I'm planning on doing too because I already have three Anvil dummies.

    Thanks,
    Jay

I can take a detail if you want but it's just a clamshell that has the same dimension as the original so you don't have to re-think the BB drop scale......

Thanks, Steve. I don't know why I boneheaded and read Henry James and thought Joe Bringheli, but that's what I did. I was thinking, "this doesn't look like my jig" after seeing the picture. Long weekend... The wife and I were at the dealership picking up her car and got plowed by some chick in a Mustang yapping on her phone as soon as we pulled out of the parking lot. Spent the day in the ER just to make sure the wife was ok and I think my noodle must have gotten a little scrambled to be asking dumb questions like this. But everyone is just fine, so that's good news.

To say I do not like the HJ dummy set up would be putting it mildly, I think you just gave me the excuse I needed to go visit Littleton tomorrow.

Click through these: Anvil-Bringheli Axle Adapter - a set on Flickr

I only do this when brazing the dropouts to keep them in phase. I then switch back to the standard dummies because they're easier to fasten.

Note the half a drill bushing in the last pic just to keep the BB drop scale correct.
