BMI estimates are always wrong for me. I carry a lot of muscle. I'm only overweight by pro cyclist standards of measurement (that's what I keep telling myself).
    Auk's words to live by:
Blow up and pin a picture of M. Bartoli on your wall. When you achieve that position, stop. Until then, stretch, ride, stretch, ride, eat less, and ride more.

As a statistics nerd, I love well-thought out ways of looking at data graphically. This is well-done imo.

And BMI is just a really, really terrible way to measure obesity etc. Much, much more forgiving for women, and there's a lot of guys at the gym who are in fantastic shape who would be considered overweight by BMI standards. But it's like trial by jury or democracy- every other way is worse.

Fun. I'm skinnier than 91% of male Americans between 30 and 44 years of age. This appears empirically correct when I go to malls, but the shame of it is that there are few malls where I live, and I'm on a cycling forum with the other 9%.

I only have a lower BMI than 85% of males aged 30-44 in my country,
so i guess it's a good thing Canada isn't as fat as the USA.
    (yet....we're workin' on it)

I'm most like an Eritrean. So, I won't be showing this to my wife who thinks I'm too skinny. This should probably be joined to the body image thread.

I do have a problem with the visualization because it suggests that BMI can range from 0-50. There is a lower threshold where death takes over.

    Entertaining, though.

Same here. Although I run into my share of blobs on the Chicago Transit Authority.

Noteddy, maybe it's genetic? Funny that my spousal equivalent thinks I'm too fat since I quit racing and gained 4 pounds

    Did you know?
If everyone in the world had the same BMI as me, it would add 60,218,797 tonnes to the total weight of the world's population

That's a whole Eritrean. Keep eating. Maybe I'll have a chance of keeping up with you.

It's weird how high the BMI is in some of the other countries. Croatia, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, etc
