The question is how much off road am I really going to do- I don't mind ADV bikes in terms of position at all so there is that.

a used Multi could be a good one. Hadn't really thought about a used bike other than a R1200GS. I'll check'em out!

a bad Soviet copy of a bad German motorcycle from 1932? SOUNDS PERFECT! Honestly it would be kind of fun to knock around with Kate in that thing- but I'm not sure it would be able to keep up with traffic even on secondary roads.

i actually almost bought a Ural in Belgium back in 1995. I remeber it literally had sheet metal screws holding parts of it together and wood screws elsewhere. I've heard they're "better" now- but how much better? Who know.

Now I'm ready for you to recommend an Enfield Himalaya.

Seems to me you have to decide whether this is going to be 99.99% road 0.01% off-road vehicle, or if you may be doing some mild off-road on a somewhat regular basis.

If it's likely to be the later, then I'd post a question about riding the AT two-up on the ADV forum. Lots of guys there know the bike well.

Finally, there's really no need to buy new. A week or two watching the ADV Classifieds and you're likely to find something of interest, quite possibly not that far from you. And being able to test-ride it would be big advantage.

Indeed. So bummed. Right before moving it into a garage and right after a $$$ trip to the Duc doc.

Wow - they sure picked that clean.

Seems to me it would have been less work to take the whole bike (even if you did have a disc lock on it).

That's a shame, but I guess that's why one has insurance.

What will you get to replace it?

    That is totally effed up.

Karma is on the look out for that motley crew.

    Jeez.

    So coffee table piece?

That's what I did with my blown triumph motor.

Good Lord, I've never seen the like . . . Hope insurance does come through and you can move on to something equally cool. Did this happen in Marin?

naw, just moved to the city, though arguably the safest part of the city (Noe Valley). It was wheel locked/alarmed. I suspect they hefted it into a van/truck, got a call a day later the CHP had found it ditched out in the East Bay.

not sure about replacements yet. still sad. Tempted to take what's left to Untitled Motorcycles and see if Hugo can work some magic...

Well shitballs. That's both terrible and oddly impressive how they stripped that thing down that quickly.

Any problems with oil consumption on the 765?

I just had a follow up and the Speed went through 400ml in 500 miles. That's 800 ml every 1000 approximately.

I was originally told by Triumph NA that the industry standard is 1000ml for every 1000 miles. Jeez.

Sounds about right on my 1098. The 900SS was worse.

Speaking of, anyone want that engine? I think insurance will loose it for a song...

No issues with either the 765 or 675 with regards to oil consumption. I can say that both engines were broken-in (run-in) race bike style. The 765 on the street, and the 675 on the dyno; get those rings set early.

like a hole in the head- but cramming that thing in a Kalex frame could be kind of bad-ass.
