Default I have a question about an american pastime?

Baseball to be exact!!! I was recently watching a documentary about the Boston Red Sox and it mentioned "world champions" how can this be so?Google and it comes up with world cup but no mention of championship I would thought the term World Champions would mean worldwide sport however it seems the major league teams are all american?

Sorry if the question seems dumbass just curious

It came into use before baseball became as international as it is now. The championship games for Baseball has been called the World Series for a long time. It may be a truncation of World Series Champion as well. There is also a Canadian team in Toronto. In any event, playing in the Major League is considered by most observers to be the premier venue for baseball.

Baseball in Cuba is subject for a separate discussion, as there is a high level of play there, but due to political considerations, we do not get to see MLB and Cuba play very often.

Maybe not the best answer, but I'm giving it a shot.

If the World Cup was only European countries plus Brazil, the winner would still be the best team in the world - right? And it would then be fair to call it the world championship of soccer/football - right?

Same idea with the World Series.

Cuba might have something to say about that, baseball-wise. But that's a pretty good analogy these days.

The Japanese have been consistently excellent in the World Baseball Classic over the past couple of editions as well as in the Little League World Series. It's sort of a world game now and many Major Leaguers don't come from the United States.

Mainly has to do with the age and conservative nature of professional baseball.

The term World Series was first used in connection with professional U.S. baseball championship series in the 1880s. Given the U.S. was an inward looking nation in the midst of its westward expansion the baseball fans probably did not give much thought to unfairly maligning other nation's baseball programs.

I am no expert in the history of Argentina, but I imagine its 19th Century for profit enterprises weren't always the most careful with their marketing terminology either.

U.S. baseball fans eschew change perhaps more than fans of any sport. Coming up with a more accurate name 130 years after the fact would be widely unpopular.

If this is a serious request, it prevents the fielder from intentionally letting the ball drop to turn a double play. If it's not serious, it's the rule that make the balk seem less bizarre.

Not serious, but an excellent answer.
