Oxycodone works thru the sedative effect not by actually 'blocking' anything.

The surgeon that dug out my ruptured disc said that often times active people with lots of lean muscle mass (read cyclists) respond better to anti inflammatorys than sedative type meds.

I recovered from a L-4/5 dysectomy with 800mg of ibuprofen 4 times a day for a week and then half of that for 2 more, nothing else.

I learned that no matter where in the world a Canadian wins something, another Canadian will find a hockey stick and attach a flag to it.

Sorry for the double post - I needed to edit the drug, it is hydrocodone-acetaminophen which did nothing for my post surgery pain.

I'm down to 400mg motrin. I'll get the stitches out on wednesday and be further evaluated. Getting the most painful thing fixed is like patching a leaking roof, after the big hole is covered you find all the other leaks. I see celebrex in my near future. Maybe when I retire in september and have more time to ride, the activity will lesson the little aches and pains.

You know that line from Choctaw Bingo, "tried to miss him but didn't quite"? Guy turned right out of a line of stopped traffic as I was passing on the shoulder going just short of 25. I learned my reactions aren't quite quick enough and I nailed his right front quarter panel. One second I'm thinking 'uh oh' and the next I'm sitting in the road wondering where my bike is. The bright spot is the bike is fine.

I learned that I am not old enough to escape the ear infections that plagued me as a child, and that Amoxicillin kicks my ass to the curb - it's not even a contest.
I am not who I am.

My fitness has canyons moreso than cracks.
And 40mph on gravel is a lot more fun than 50mph on pavement.

the week i don't learn a few things is most likely going to be followed by my funeral. i'm always soaking up stuff and having "aha moments".

highlights for the week: all the presenters and participants at Ballers, mickey's clinic, va bbq, how fast i can change a waterpump with borrowed tools on a hot engine (the benefits of traveling during business hours!), how to build a fork, and stuff like that.

acetaminophen is useless poison for my system (and most drinkers). i avoid it at every turn-they'll give you the other hydro if you axe for it. and when i have to take that stuff--i have happy no pain time.

Trying a new brew with honey added in place of of some the the Barley sugars.
We'll see how it is in a few weeks.
    Bubling away in the fermenter.

Also I learned people are A-holes when a cyclist is killed.
A young HS student was hit and killed in Charlotte this AM.
And all the comments ran like, "Bikes don't belong on the road. Stay on the sidewalk......."
Well it turns out the kid was on the sidewalk and hit some debris which pitched him into the road in front of an 18 wheeler.

I said some prayers for him and the family.
