New BB standards and their benefits.

I've wanted to have an informed, inteligable chat with people who are immersed in the industery for a while. I have my own understandings of certain new standards and I'm currently trying out few to see if assumptions are correct. However what I'm not so certain about is the availability of crank sets, BBs and which ones will stick arround and which ones are a fad.
