I've got several, and my favorite by far is a woman named Rainbeau Mars.
I believe her website is rainbeaumars.com

pure sweat and pure power are my favorites.

Also--try and make it to a class or two. A decent teacher can help you alot in the beginning.

It's not about just mimicking the poses... You can't do it all yourself anyway... Just find a place you like and do it regularly for awhile. It's the easiest thing to do, easier than running, even. You always wear the same thing, no shoes, and the weather outside doesn't matter. yogajournal.com has a lot of text description.

My wife does pilates. She has a teacher but she also looks at this woman. I don't know her name, but she's hypnotic. Super strong. Maniacal. I tried to do some these with my wife and nearly sh*t myself & puked simultaneously after about 10 minutes. I guess that isn't yoga, but whoo boy, talk about building core strength. All stomach. My wife uses it to keep her spine from slipping out of whack. I do a few of these but I'm avoiding the others for a while.

I would find the time to attend a class. One hour a week for two months won't kill you, and it will be way more valuable and instructive than DVDs. Yoga's great, but you have to give it a chance.

    Goto to itunes store.
    search podcast for Yoga Today
they have many short (free) videos from the primary series to specific ones for your back or post/pre workouts etc etc
just download what you are interested in and go.

I second soupless' recommendation on attending a class or three. Left to my own disciplines, I'd likely just spend the session in balasana or savasana and call it good. But there's that 15 second tea tree oil temple massage she gives at the end of class that I just can't seem to replicate.

There is a video I use from Sri Dharma Mittra that is phenominal. His practice if very focused on both strength and flexibility and will give you a powerful foundation in yoga.

The guy himself is in his 70's and is in shape like most of us would kill for.

the video is available here: Maha Sadhana Video

Follow the instructions, do not over extend yourself and pay attention to your body. I find that this program, dramatically alters my flexibility, core strength and gives me a general sense of well being. You do not need level 2. Level one will keep you busy for some time.

I was turned on to this by a friend who has been doing yoga herself for 20+ years and is a teacher. (she can also do all o that legs crossed behind her neck stuff). this is her teacher.

    I have never felt healthier.

Haven't made it to his studio yet (pretty pathetic, I know) but that quotation of his stopped me in my tracks.

Sharks mittra is hot shit. I've been using a video of his for 6 months. Amazing and a woman I have been seeing has been a student of his for 20 years. The benefits to me of both of these have been substantial. The guy is about 80 years old and still looks just like the picture.
