Default getting back into the watch wearing game

It's been 5 or 6 years since I wore a watch regularly. I used to like heavy metal banded watches but I'm thinking this time around of something better for active use, lighter weight, not expensive, not fancy but fun nonetheless. What are you all wearing in this category?

I have a couple of Seiko automatics. One on a metal band, the other on a maratec nato. On another thread there are numerous pictures and comments about the maratec strap. It is light and dries quickly. There are numerous seikos that might fit the bill for you, as well as lots of other brands. Amazon has some killer prices on seiko watches, but the number of models and the differences between them is pretty staggering.

Do double check those Amazon prices though, I've seen some Seiko models vary wildy in price over a couple months (like $350 vs $220) or other places (newegg has good prices too).

i was considering that, but my wife has had nothing but problems with her swatches. 3 bands in 18 months. she's bought a new watch in bands alone.

good call: Amazon.com: Timex Men's T2N654KW Weekender Blue and Gray Slip Through Strap Watch: Watches

although the reviews say it is loud. i don't like loud ticking watches, especially if it is going to stay on my wrist at all times.

I have a Bathys 100 Fathom auto; have had it for about 5 months now and really like it. Moderate size is great as I have small wrists, looks are a bit distinctive and sporty in theme. I also have a Seiko Orange Monster; love that thing but sometimes orange doesn't seem right.. Bang for the buck the Seiko's are hard to beat IMHO..

The prices on the Bathys have become very nice, since they went direct to consumer.

Yep, I have the black pvd with the Ruthenium(sp?) face and I bought it right after their prices came down.. So far I'm very happy with it.

Just ordered an orange Orient Mako and will replace the stainless bracelet with a martec Zulu strap. Can't beat the price for an automatic - got it for less than $100. Supposedly less rugged, but more precise than the Seiko monsters.

I'm gonna pick up an XW Tsunami when he gets the next batch of movements. It's a 6309 homage with modern updates, including a 6R15 movement.

I've got my eye on one of those too. They really look awesome yet completely under the radar.

those look very slick, but definitely not in the "not expensive" category. i'm talking less than $100. The Orient Mako might fit the bill here.
