    Default The Quintessential Hotdog Thread

I don't have a picture to go along with this first one because they are gone daddy gone. I took my favorite mass produced dog (Schweigert old fashioned natural casing) and wrapped it in a slice of prosciutto and delicately placed it on the grill. The bun was lovingly caressed with evoo and put on to toast a bit. I sliced a thin strip of Carr Valley Havarti and placed it on the bun followed by the snausage. My wife loves me. What you got?

This is a great spot here in town. They have duck fat french fries, too. No need to try to this at home, this takes care of my hotdog jones.

Hot dogs: my guilty indulgence in an otherwise mostly non-processed food diet. Well, except for cheese. Let's not get crazy.

Fortunately, my better half is a Bear and I've been treated to this:

    top dog

La Burrita next door is also on on the list of do-not-miss. I've had both for lunch. Same day. Didn't end well.

Hoof it down to Bancroft afterwards and go see Hiroshi.

I don't eat them often, but when I do, I like my hotdog simple:

Hummel Bros. hot dog (grilled to perfection)
    Toasted bun
    Mustard

Hummel Bros. are in New Haven, CT. I buy their natural casing dogs from a local market, but they may ship outside the CT region. Best tasting hot dog I've experienced.

I'm a fan of Vienna Beef dogs with natural casings and poppyseed buns. I switch between the Chicago style electric green relish and mustard and chili cheese mustard. there is no better way to enjoy French fries than scooping up the left over chili mess.

I eat them once a yr. or everytime I'm in NYC. Here, it's Hebrew National on a potato roll bun with mustard and that's it. Frickin' Heaven and I'm done for a yr.

    Dorman, you are an animal.

Damn, read on the menu they have truffle mac and cheese. We need to start a Mac and Cheese thread. Back to dogs...any time any where good dog, bun, condiments. Breakfast of champions.

I don't eat meat, so I partake in the veggie dog, but here's my local spot: GOOD FOOD at HAPPY DOG

Walking the two blocks tonight to drink beer, listen to music and stare at hipster girls.

Their hot dogs are ok as hot dogs go, but there's a fun hot dog stand in Mamaroneck, NY that dates back to 1919, and has been in the same roadside building since 1928. Only open in the summer:

I think I ate 5 of them in one sitting once upon a time, NOT on a bike ride. Urf.

A Fenway frank is manna from heaven. A Yankee dog is the feces of Satan.

I feel kind of lame for not having hit this place yet, but it was featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives a couple of years ago. Guess I'm going to have to make a point of going into the city.

I'm more than suprised that there is not a shout-out to the Chicago Style Dogs...Best Hot Dogs Ever!

Totally differant from NY, but I think better.

    Great thread....

Sometimes a good dog is better than a steak.... If you are talking "stands" I would have to say Frank's near Calpoly in SLO-- chili cheese dogs as big as your head! As far as store bought dogs are concerned, I haven't found anything better than Millers-- AND I love my dogs....

About 5 years ago, I led a series of rides for the NYCC where the destinations were "famous" hot dog stands of the tri-state area. We went to Walters, Super Duper Weenie (Fairfield), and the Red Rooster Drive-In (Brewster) on three successive weekends. Good times. I like hot dogs.
