My wife's morning kick is jasmine tea, If there is any left over in the pot from the day before I will use this instead of water in my oats. Gives it a flowery taste and fragrance.

Yesterdays observation at the store: Quaker steel cut oats $2 more than Bob's for the same volume. Got the Bob's and had this morning with wild blueberries and brown sugar. It was good.

I do mine with 3 cups sugar, a stick of butter, 1/2 cup cocoa and 1/4 cup of milk and teaspoon of vanilla. Bring all that to a boil and add oats. Dollop out cookie sized pieces onto a cookie sheet and cool in the refrigerator. Southern no-bake cookies.

    1) 1 cup steel cut oats, 3 cups water, half a cup of half and half
    2) tons of dates, cherries, a cinnamon stick or two, raisins
    3) leave crockpot/slow cooker on low overnight
    4) wake up in the morning to magical oatmeal.
This is the way to go. Get some pretty coarsely cut oats (the slow cooker will give them a great texture overnight. The more generic finely cut stuff meant for the microwave is worse for this method) and go nuts adding whatever your palate desires. Set it up before you go to bed and in the morning you have a warm breakfast waiting for you. I do it a lot in the winter.

    Scot- style.

    1 part milk
    1 part water
    1 part rolled oats
    some white sugar
    touch o' salt

Cook on med-lo for about 15 minutes. Eat with brown sugar and cold milk (a little at a time)
    :^)
