Resurrecting this thread to see if anyone knows where I could sell one of my kidneys for one of these:

I also lust after the new Speedmaster '57, which checks all the boxes for me-- in-house 9300 movement, approaching classic dimensions (42mm), fresh take on a historical design. Apparently they're coming out in September.

We have the same disease. Sad stuff. A Speedy will be my next watch, it take me years but that's ok.

I am a fan of the Speedy as well but I have one question. Why no love for the automatic versions with sapphire crystal? I have a soft spot for blue faced watches and I am just curious why these seem to be largely ignored by speedy fans. The sub dial layout isn't as symetrically beautiful but it is mostly there.

Part of the love for Speedys has , for me, been the fact that they are wind up watches.

I wear a midsize one with the silver face almost every day. Auto with date. It is a beautiful watch and I like that it flies under the radar more than the professional.
I just paid $1,200 for a new bezel, crystal, crown, gaskets, and a full servicing. The watch really isn't worth much more than that but I felt good about bringing it to perfect shape because I really anticipate owning it forever.

Good point. Makes complete sense. I really enjoy the interaction with my watches as well. You don't have to wind the Speedmaster, you get to.

To me the beauty of the wind up Speedy is that the design is largely unchanged since its inception in the 1960's. Omega has tweaked things as they moved from the cal 321 to cal 861 to cal 1861 movement and beyond, but the basic design of the movement and the dial/subdial/pushers is the same. It's a classic watch for so many reasons.

No offense to those who like the silver dial, mid-sized, Racing, auto movement etc. models... but to me the hand wound is still the ONLY true Speedmaster.

The new 57 is sweet. Has me re-considering the IWC Top Gun Pilot I've been wanting.

You should. The IWC Top Gun, IMO, won't stand the test of time the way the Speedmaster will.

I agree. The IWC Top Gun is a great looking watch...with an unfortunate name. I can't get over the fact that it is tied to a movie with a Kenny Loggins soundtrack.

Meanwhile, I will be saving my money for a Rolex Footloose.

Good choice. You may also want to consider the Jaeger-LeCoultre Caddyshack II.

The coolest part of the Top Gun is the flyback chrono. I don't think they put it in a non Top Gun model, though.

As an update, the Omega boutique in Natick, MA has a couple '57s in stock. I tried one on, and while it was beautiful, it was too big for my 6.5" wrist. Also very thick at about 16mm, which is an unfortunate result of the domed display back coupled with the 9300 movement, a trend that I hope Omega can reverse.

I did try on this and now have a new focus of my desire:

I used to own an auto Speedy but had to part with it when times got tough. It's the only watch I ever sold that I really miss...

I'm sorry to hear that you had to sell a gem like that. Hopefully you are in a better spot now? I'm not usually a fan of white faced watches but that one is really nice. The red hands really stand out. I have never seen an ugly Speedmaster. Rolex, on the other hand......

Choke - Do you have the model (code) for that watch? Sorry for your loss, it will come back someday.

Thanks. I replaced it a couple of years ago with an El Primero HW so many would say I ended up much better off.

Thanks. It's a 3513.33. From what I found on the net it appears that they were made for the Japanese market from 1996-98.

Wow. Truly terrible. It looks like the love child of a time bomb and an egg. There are so many things that have gone wrong with that design that I will just step away from the computer and let it go.
