    Okay, I'm joining the fun.

    6'0"

    Goal 180 lbs, lean.

Four years ago my son was born preemie and spent 3 months in the NICU. If I wasn't working, I was at the hospital. I lived on Taco Bell and pizza. When I thought to step on a scale again, I was over 230 lbs. With the help of friends, peer pressure, and constant bike commuting, I'm down more than 30 lbs and shooting for another 15. Up until now, I haven't been too serious about intake, just output. I'll change that. And I'm about to start swimming laps now that we are heading into Autumn. We'll see what that does for me.

And for those of you that are over 200 . . . can't tell you how good it feels to see the scales dip below 200 lbs. 199 = elation. You feel like you will never get there, but you will. Keep up the great work.

It's been a hard few days here. Work obligations cut 2 rides, and rain another. I stuck hard to the diet plan, and kept on track as far as weight.
I'm hoping to break into the 160's this week.

It's getting lonely in here guys. Stick with it and don't get discouraged. I'm finding it really takes a good 4 to 5 weeks for the 'lifestyle' changes to take effect. It's just a combination of exercise, keeping the bad food out of the house, eating smaller portions and eating good stuff. I'm not having the cravings for the pint of Ben and Jerry's or a handful of chocolate chip cookies like I was. It really does get easier as you go along.

For those of you getting a little discouraged, remember I used to weigh 210 lbs and smoke a pack of Winstons a day. So don't go thinking I'm just a manorexic, gifted genetic bike freak here. The goal for me is 137 lbs, but if I could spend the rest of my days around 145, I know it'll add years to my life. You can do the same!

tom, you're a machine! it's probably lonely in here the same way the lion cage at the zoo is a lonely place to hang out - most of us are happier on the outside, watching, eating ice cream.

for my part, i can report that once again i woke up a little fatter than i want. i don't have a scale handy, but my guess is 5'11", 172 lbs. my goal would be ~160-162, aka "college" or "before kids" or "before all my friends took up golf and dining out and getting fat" or whatever best describes the before time / long long ago.

time to give this some thought

Tom, don't worry, I'm still here! My vice is that I started with the gym scale, so I'm sticking with that one, and I'm only at the gym 3x per week. 6 weeks until my marathon, then I finally get to cut back the running a bit and get back on the bike some more!

i gotta jump in here and purge atmo. i'm a 140lb guy stuck in a 147lb body. after 'cross natz in december, i took a rest and found myself at about 160lb after NAHBS. when i started riding again, nothing would come off. i don't eat a lot, and my food habits are healthy and reasonable. but i knew after baller's weekend that it was time to moderate the weight thing regardless. i dropped 15lbs since spring but in the last 3-4 weeks i am steady in the high 140s. the thing is, no matter that i wish the scale had different numbers, i feel skinny, my clothes are loose, and i am more than satisfied with the race fitness i have atmo. i have reconciled that at my age metabolism there's not much more i can do to lose big chunks of weight unless i stop eating altogether. i take on as much as i can to feel like i have replenished whatever needs topping off, and i never sit around eating junk food, nor do ever, ever eat between meals. i'll be surprised if my weight gets below 143lbs any time this autumn.

    Tom,

It looks to me like you are getting ready to put a world of hurt on some young whipper snappers on the next ride.

If you are struggling with being hungry, increase your vegetable and fruit intake. Eating 3 pieces of fruit a day, and several extra servings of raw or steamed vegetables made all of the difference for me.
Thanks guys, keep it up guys, the daily (or so) check in helps keep me on track.
