Just got back from vacation, week and a half in Glacier NP and Yellowstone NP. Packed a weeks worth of gear and an Alite chair in the Patagonia Black Hole Duffle, and carried on.

And almost two months later, I finally figured I should post some pics. Took me a while to get the bags done (I ended up going through three sewing machines). But here they are - I made a duffel that is maximum legal carry-on sized, and a messenger bag. I used to make messenger bags for others, but retired a while ago. Truth be told, alot of the stitching on both of these are sub-standard for what I'd like. Anyways, here goes:

Picture of both bags- The carry on bag is designed to be as simple and light as possible. I plan on using my large Eagle Creek folder for structure. It was built with the 7kg limit on some planes in mind.

Inside of Messenger bag. At the bottom of the pic is the document slot. To the top left is the iPad-specific pocket. The pocket to the top right holds my wallet. The orange S-Biner is for clipping a Nalgene water bottle to.

Usually, I am all about simplicity with messenger bags, using sub-bags to organize things. This bag was made for off-bike use more than commuting. I'm using a CamelBak to commute in (sssh, dont tell Palincss). Both bags will get used heavily on my upcoming Asian adventure.

Since this thread was originally posted, I have acquired and put about 35,000 miles on this:

With 10 plane trips and a whole lot of other use, the bag is virtually unmarked. It will require many more years of hard use toeven be broken in.

Decided to try a Red Oxx Air Boss. Nice bag. Bought the wife a purple Chica too. Because chicks dig presents and, purple. She loves it.

Tonight we get a call from Montana. Only guy I know in Montana is Carl Strong and it's not his number so let it go to voice mail. Its the fellow from Red Oxx asking if everything arrived OK and how we like the product. Sounds like the same fellow that does their videos. Pretty darn impressed to get a call from a living human asking if we are happy with the gear.
