3/4 shorts?

Riding knickers work great if one knows they won't remove knee warmers
They are typically worn with a long-sleeved jersey since that is what temperature dictates.
Buy a pair and enjoy them on the bicycle.

I tried on a set of the Chrome ones last summer and thought they were alright. They were expensive, though.

Looking decent riding a bike in anything other than lycra is a tough nut to crack. Even more difficult to not look like a goon when you get off. I'm not sure whether or not these do the job. They might be the least bad choice for riding your bike around town at 14mph on a Saturday morning.

Ah, nevermind. When I am riding to an non-cycling event and plan to lounge around I wear a set of Royal Robbins hiking shorts over my bibs.

Problem is that when you wear lycra around people hopefully assume you are just off the bike. When you wear loose nickers they could just think you are wearing knickers/capri pants around...

Some people can wear a paper bag and look cool...I just look like another fat guy in a paper bag.

Anywho, this bugs me. I've got a couple sets of very ancient metal clips for pants that allow you to ride without getting your bell bottom levi's caught in the chainring. They work like a charm and you don't have to explain that NO you are not riding in PlusFours as part of some Golf re-enactment. Here are a set of new Torelli leather clips, velly fancy:

OR you could do what our parents did and use these oldies but goodies. With these it's no prob. to arrive in style wearing your tailored LLBean Khakis ;)

I've been wearing a set of Chrome knickers for daily commuting over the last three winters. The Schoeller fabric is awesome. Highly recommended. In the mid-Atlantic region, I can wear nothing but Chrome knickers and my Wabi Woolen, with various under layers, from November until end of March. I modified mine with elastic draw strings around the calf opening, to prevent cold air shooting up my leg. The newest versions have a cinch.

Mine get worn with Sidis to the gym, bakery, grocery store, and the office during off hours. But I'm married and not out trying to impress hot wimins. And yes I wear them with wool tshirts and Ibex knit polos when temps are in the 50s.

I was looking for some comfortable riding shorts for when I go for rides with my daughters, etc. When Rapha first introduced the 3/4 shorts a few years back, I tried on a pair, and can say decidedly that I could not pull them off—or perhaps I should say I could not pull them off fast enough...

Their touring shorts are awesome, btw. Super lightweight and comfortable, and don't grab your leg as you pedal. Off the bike, they just look like shorts.

Lots of "manly" worker types go with 3/4 length pants; cooks, gardeners/landscape workers, metal workers just to name a few.

get a little bit of air and draft on/up your legs so you don't get as hot as wearing full length pants, and you protect your thighs and knees from whatever. (sparks, thorns, hot liquids, grease splatters, 20mph wind chill breeze)

no need to call them capri pants or say they are for on the bike only.

You can put lipstick on a pig but it is still a pig. Those are capri pants - or manpris if you prefer.

I have a few pairs, and wear them frequently. I tend to ride a little in the morning, then a little in the afternoon, around town, errands, etc. For me, they're great for that, no fussing with leg bands (although there's a pair hanging off the bike all the time) and fashion be damned, they're comfortable. Good in temps down to 30 degrees for me, no bike shorts underneath, etc. For around town, in and out of stores and restuarants, they can't be beat, IMO.

Have a pair of mountain hardwear synthetics and a pair of Swobo canvas, plus some home mades from old pants. Function over fashion for me..

I rock manpri's for spring/fall mountain biking and hiking. I can't stand knee warmers, they never fit that well.

I am a big fan of the OR 3/4 Ferossi pants.
